Fiio E1 volume drop problem

Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Fiio E1 because the headphone jack on my ipod started malfunctioning. The problem is that it seem i can't get the volume very high because when it starts to get loud the volume suddenly drops. This also happens when i'm listening to a song on a satisfying level but when the next song comes and it's "louder" the volume drops down.
I really don't know anything about portable amps so I'm wondering if this is a problem with the amp or if it's just they way it work. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I suspect the problem is not the E1 but lies in your iPod.

There's a setting to equalize song volume in the iPod. It lowers the volume for any loud songs so that all your songs are at the same loudness. You might have that enabled.

Don't think that's it. I exhausted all possible settings and the problem persists. It specially happens when bass heavy parts begging and sometime with sharp highs

If it happens without the amp then its the iPod, otherwise its the amp.
