I am extremely confused on which setup I should purchase for use at home with my M-100 and eventually an Open back set of cans, either the HD-650 or HE-400. I've read the gain on the Magni and Modi is too high for the M-100 and it's too powerful for even the HE-400, much less the M-100. I particularly like the Fiio combo, but I was wondering if the output impedance on the 10 ohm E09K would cause any problems with my 32 ohm M-100. Thanks for any help.

Heya,

I would just get a simple Fiio E17. And later down the road, when you get new headphones, consider a stand alone amplifier perhaps. If you go HD650 maybe look at a nice OTL tube. If you go HE-400 maybe a more powerful solid state (like the Magni or JDS Labs O2).

Very best,

Why would I not want to purchase the E09k too? Can you explain yourself please?

The E17 is plenty powerful enough for your current headphones. You don't have to dock it with the E09k. You can just line-out to any amplifier. So don't limit yourself to Fiio. When you do go for other headphones that actually need more amplification, that's when you can look at other amps. If you get the HD650, I would get a tube amp (Valhalla, Little Dot MK II+, III, IV, DarkVoice 336se). If you get the HE400, I would get a solid state (JDS O2, Schiit Magni).

Very best,

Why would you preffer a tube amp for the hd 650? Also, is the hd 600 more forgiving when it comes to amplification? For example, would the e07k go better with the hd 650 or hd 600? Thanks.
