[FIIO DM13] HiFi Balanced Output Portable Stereo CD Player DM13 Is Officially Released!

Because in this device that I wanted to use as DAC - Cayin N7 there is no coaxial input.

Regarding cable - I have only found something like this. Don't know if it will work or not.

Is there a particular reason you want to use the N7 as a DAC for it? The DAC in the DM13 performs extremely well, to the point where even if it were possible, I wouldn't even see the point in using my Sony WM1AM2 as the output with the DM13 (even though I'm extremely partial to that sound signature).

I've looked into this before, and one doesn't exists. To turn SPDIF signal into USB c audio output requires some level of process/clocking that a simple cord cannot do. The devices I've found are all designed to work with a computer to capture music, but not output audio signal. If you are hellbent on using a USB c only external dac, it will be more economical to just sell this and buy the Shanling CR60.
Also I don't know the use case of @karhujanis but the CR60 is not portable at all, and by using the N7 together with DM13, it seems he wants a (kind of) portable solution...

Exactly! For non portable use I already have very good Denon DCD1600-NE (with Fiio K9 Pro ESS for headphones or Yamaha AS-701 for Elac DBR62) - it is of course bigger than Shanling but they both are not portable CD players. With DM13 I wanted something more portable with good sound signature to play my favourite CDs somewhere far from my main stereo system. Anyway, I tried DM13 balanced out to Denon AH-D9200 headphones and it sounds really nice. However, not close to Cayin N7 or Fiio K9 Pro ESS.

Hi karhujanis,

Does "more portable" mean; still in at home, but in another room ? Or while commuting/travelling ? My use case would be the first one only, and the DM13 is OK for that because even if it is a bit bulky, at home it would be fine for me. As we now have DAPs I would't consider carrying around a "discman" a some of my CDs

I can see lots of differences between headphones and some between amps, bu I'm not really able to distinguish the "sound" of various modern DAC  They are all more than good enough for me. So, with the DM13 I would easily trade "ultimate SQ" for convenience, and use the device as is, without using any other kind of DAC/AMP to improve SQ.

I will observe how I feel with DM13 and headphones only for some time )

Beginner question.

I want to connect my FiiO DM13 to an Echo Studio (mini-toslink) through the Line Out Coax/Opt. Which cable type do i have to order? Does anyone have an example (i do not mind which brand) to clarify my doubts? thanks!

Dear friend,

Hi,

For line connection, you could find the 3.5mm audio cable for help.
For coaxial connection, you could find the 3.5mm TRRS coaxial cable for help. This FAQ may help: https://www.fiio.com/newsinfo/974471.html
For optical connection, you could find the 3.5mm optical cable for help.

Best regards

In case it was not clear from the answer above, you have to find a mini-toslink to mini-toslink cable, i.e 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable.

@FiiO and @FiiO Willson :
What about availability of the the white skylight in EU; at the moment none of the resellers I know (France, UK and Germany) have DM13 in stock, and they don't know anything about when they could get some of the transparent ones
According to the posts I saw on Weibo since the launch of this version, it is a big success, maybe more than all the other (non-transparent) versions...

I too want the white skylight version but there’s nothing in the UK. A couple of online retailers have it showing as pre-order but no expected dates. Richer Sounds only have the black version available as pre-order (again, no date).

Sorry for you guys wait so much time.
We will send the skylight version to foreign agents next week. I think there will be some that can be bought soon.
Please consult the local agent to see if they have ordered from us :beerchug:

OK, thank you for the update. What's the status with the firmware improvement ; did the devs found a way to solve the drops and gaps problems ?

I'm also interested. I have the latest v22_2 but still get skips on long CDs. Gapless playback works on this version, and it's better than the release firmware. The update is a bit faffy and didn't take the first two times I tried, but it's worth doing.

I too have the latest firmware, gapless seems to work, but it still occasionally skips and sometimes drops the first few seconds at the beginning of a cd when it starts to play it. The firmware upgrade is certainly worth doing.
@FiiO Willson, when will the next firmware be available that will resolve the above problems? Thanks.
