[FiiO BTR3K] Balanced High-Fidelity Bluetooth Amp(Questionnaire About Upgrading the BTR3K updated in 2023-6-14)
Mar 24, 2020 at 9:07 PM Post #16 of 403
Can they support headphones with high impedance? Like 600ohm?
Hello,

Thanks for your interest in our BTR3K. The drive ability of BTR3K is 16~100Ω(recommended). So it may not drive the 600Ω headphone well. But you could also have a try or read some review when it is available.

Best regards

idk how it's even legal to make something for pre-order without even the basic info about it.
Write to Hifigo and ask them: service@hifigo.com Or, ask @FiiO if it's ok for Hifigo to take pre-orders.

The BTR3K got announced yesterday, FiiO listed it here, and Hifigo created a blog post with technical info. Did you read those posts? FiiO.com doesn't have an entry for the BTR3k last I checked.

The BTR5 didn't have an entry on FiiO.com when the BTR5 was first listed here by FiiO, and Hifigo listed the BTR5 for Pre-Order around the same time.

As far as pre-orders in general I don't usually do them or recommend them. I like to see expert reviews and owner reviews before I make a purchase. That's what I did for the BTR5, and I bought the BTR5 from Amazon - I didn't pre-order.

You have to decide if maybe missing out on the BTR3K for a long time like what happened with the BTR5 is worth pre-ordering the BTR3K now, instead of waiting. YMMV :)

The important half of the basic info is still unknown, all the current info is just great for marketing but not telling of actual use.

Hey @FiiO can you please list more technical details for the BTR3K? If you can't do that now, when will they be made public? It would be nice to have an entry on FiiO.com for the BTR3K sooner than later with all those usual technical chart details for us to use to compare against those published for other FiiO products. Thank you! :)

You can also write to Hifigo (service@hifigo.com) and ask them to reach out to FiiO in China to see what info they can dig up and add to their blog and while you are at it you can ask them to add more technical info to their BTR3K pre-order product listing.

Hifigo's blog and pre-order product page has much of the info I've seen FiiO list, and adds some of their own commentary:

Fiio BTR3K Announced: Latest Bluetooth DAC/AMP!!
It was just yesterday when Fiio announced their products roadmap for the year 2020. Today they showed us the first look of their upcoming Bluetooth DAC/AMP, the Fiio BTR3K. The BTR3K is coming as an upgrade for their entry-level Bluetooth dongle the BTR3, while it brings updates to the previous model it is less powerful by their flagship Bluetooth dongle the BTR5. We also got an image showing the circuitry of the BTR3k which tells us several features of the products.
Before we proceed you can order a unit of Fiio BTR3K from our store at Hifigo here.
Fiio BTR3k-1

From the circuitry chart shared by the brand we know the following things for the BTR3k for sure:-

High-Performance Dual DAC Setup, Dual AK4377 DAC’s:-
Unlike the single DAC design in the BTR3, The Fiio BTR3k is powered by a dual DAC setup of high-performance DAC’s from AKM, AK 4377. The DAC’s provide noise-free decoding and will be providing a clean sound output from the Dongle.

Flagship Qualcomm Bluetooth Chip, CSR8675:-
Fiio BTR3k-2

The DAC/AMP is featuring a Flagship level Bluetooth chip, the CSR8675 which supports Bluetooth 5.0 and all the latest hi-res Bluetooth codecs such as LDAC, aptX, aptX HD, and many more. So we are expecting the device will be featuring all the latest hi-res codecs. This chip also ensures better signal transmission and a stable connection to the source device.

Dual Output Ports:-
The Fiio BTR3k features dual output ports just like the flagship model from the brand. It features a 3.5mm single-ended port and a 2.5mm balanced port.

USB Type-C Input:-
The Fiio BTR3k features a USB Type-C port which can be used to charge the device or provide input to the device for decoding and amplification.

Fiio BTR3k-3

The Fiio BTR3k surely looks like a promising entry point for many beginner audiophiles. It is currently available for pre-order at the Hifigo website here, and it will be shipped as early as next weekend.

Some Comparisons between different Bluetooth DAC/AMP’s by Fiio:-
BTR3k vs BTR3:-
>The BTR3k is coming as an upgrade for the previous-gen BTR3.

>BTR3k is equipped with Dual AK4377 DAC’s while the BTR3 only featured a single AK4376A DAC, the latest model decodes and provides a cleaner output than the BTR3.

>BTR3k offers dual output ports with one 3.5mm SE port and one 2.5mm Balanced Port, while the BTR3 only offered a 3.5mm SE port for output.

BTR3K vs BTR5:-
>The BTR5 is flagship level Bluetooth DAC/AMP from the brand while the BTR3k is going to be an entry-level Bluetooth dongle.

>BTR5 features a flagship-level Dual DAC setup having Dual ES9218 DAC’s while the BTR3K is offering high-performance dual DAC having AK4377 DAC’s.

>DAC setup in BTR5 is equipped with dual crystal oscillators clocks at 45Mhz and more, while the BTR3k DAC offers dual clocks of around 25MHz, which enables the DAC in BTR5 to decode and provide a cleaner output as compared to the BTR3k.

>The BTR5 features a XUF XMOS USB chip that provides better format support.

>The BTR5 has an OLED screen while the BTR3k only has Fiio logo which will light up with different colors according to the format being played.

The product pre-order page has more photo's, but not as much details as their blog post:

As I see it Hifigo is providing a pre-order service to make sure their customers get early access to the BTR3K (and other products) as a benefit of being a Hifigo customer, and to me that's a good thing, whether I take advantage of it myself or not.

Whenever I have questions I don't hesitate to ask. I research for answers on the internet, then ask retailers, vendors, manufacturers, etc,, and that's how I find out things I don't know.

I've already asked Hifigo questions dozens of times before, during, and likely after my purchase(s). You can just as easily take advantage of Hifigo's hospitable service department and ask them questions too. :)

i am still going to rather get a BTR5 than wait for this, but since my country is going into a lockdown i will have to wait a month or two before i do
Are the mail services shutting down in your region?

Here in California we are also asked to stay inside and only go out occasionally for essentials - food, medicine, etc., but I am continuing to get mail and package deliveries from the US Postal Service and Fedex - probably UPS too but I don't have any packages in route from them right now.

Only essential services are open, and at least in our area that includes Central Computers - a local retailer - so we can get "work from home" essentials. I haven't needed to check for any other such "essential" retailers, but there are still a number of online services open around the world to deliver products to our mailboxes or front door delivery.

Amazon US has instituted a moratorium on restocking non-essentials in their regional warehouses, so those non-essentials might disappear as Amazon warehouses run out of current inventory. I don't think BTR5's are considered essential products, so they might not get restocked.

Hopefully you can figure out a way to get a BTR5 sooner :)

The BTR3k surely looks promising but I would personally wait for BTR5 whenever going for a Bluetooth Dongle. But I will have to wait for a few weeks its lockdown here in my country now.

Since Fiio still would not publish the power out put of this amp, I googled the data sheet of the amp chip itself (AK4377A) and a single one can output 25mW into 32 Ohm like the previous btr3, so expect a 50 mW into 32 Ohm for the balanced out put. That's a 3dB difference, nevertheless I am glad the price is appropriate.

Would this be good enough for a beyer dt770 80ohm?

And for a Sennheiser hd58x?

According to the specs, it will make the beyer's loud enough on the balanced output but I am not sure about the 58X, it's an open back so how noisy your environment will make a big impact.

The earstudio es100 mkii has twice as much power but it's also more expensive.

Thank you very much for the quick response, that's the kind of data we were looking for. A comparison chart of parameters that have changed between the BTR3 and BTR3K would also be helpful. The descriptions so far have been useful, but many don't like to read long text for comprehension of specific details and prefer comparison charts that distill the differences into a smaller easier and quicker to read form.

Also, I did do a search for BTR3K in your store yesterday and today, and it's not showing up in searches:

"Sorry, no matches were found in this store for btr3k.
Please check your keyword(s) spelling or try to use a more general keyword(s)"

And at the link you provided there is no price or availability to order:

"FiiO BTR3K HiFi Bluetooth 5.0 Sports Receiver/Headphone Amp with AK4377A2 DAC|aptX HD/LDAC Support (3.5mm&2.5m)
Sorry, this item is no longer available!"

Thanks again for the quick response :)

To be fair neither of us specifically asked for the power output(s), we only asked for more data parameters. If we had asked specifically I am sure @FiiO would have been happy to respond with them when available.

@FiiO - please add the BTR3K power outputs to the chart or in a separate posting. Thank you!

@nishan99 - and everyone else - besides the power outputs are there any other parameters you would like to see that aren't included in the parameters table @FiiO posted?
