[FiiO BTR3K] Balanced High-Fidelity Bluetooth Amp(Questionnaire About Upgrading the BTR3K updated in 2023-6-14)
May 11, 2020 at 11:40 PM Post #121 of 403
I just got mine. Lovely little gizmo. I am listening with the Nighthawks using the balanced jack.

What color is your indicator light pulsing in? In my S8, I have the bluetooth BTR3K's settings "LDAC enabled". Also in the Fiio Control app, in "Select Bluetooth codec", I ONLY have LDAC enabled.

So one would think that I'm using the LDAC codec. Yet, the indicator color is more of a Lilac color, which is more purple (ie APTX) than it is white (ie LDAC.).

Edit: Yup, I'd say it's purple. Definitely not white. Also, I have rebooted both my phone and the BTR3K.

Maybe @FiiO can shed some "light" on the matter?

Update: I read somewhere else that with the BTR3, the LDAC indicator color is really just "less purple" than with APTX. I went into a dark room and compared the lights, and that indeed seems to be the case on my BTR3K as well: APTX is purple, and LDAC is a bit less purple (but still purple).

Is that what others here have observed as well?
Hi,

Yes, when using LDAC, the indicator is white with a little bit purple colour. This is normal and please don't worry.

Best regards

Thanks. But honestly, my indicator is purple with a little bit of white lol.

It doesn't matter anyway.. I like the colour, and more importantly, the BTR3K sounds friggin' awesome :)

I'd say its less purple rather than a pure white. If you install / open the fiio control app it shows the current connection codec.

Thanks! I was just about to call you a liar, because I couldn't find the codec anywhere. But then I saw that big bold beautiful "LDAC" of which you speak! (nobody - including my wife- has ever accused me of being the most observant person in the universe lol)

Edit: I can't believe I didn't see the current connection codec in the app! Had I seen it, I probably wouldn't even have posted about the color of the LDAC led. D'oh!

As more I follow this thread more angry I get with @FiiO , BTR3K was released a few weeks ago and a lot of people already have it, BTR5 was released months ago, I bought mine in December and I'm still freaking waiting to receive it!!! That's absurd! Looks like buying an Indiegogo or Kickstarter campaign that keep delaying.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about that. Did you buy the BTR5 from our Aliexpress store? Have you contacted the seller for help?

Best regards

The BTR3k case arrived from Hifigo (China) Tuesday - shipping took 3 days(!) via DHL to San Francisco - DHL was backed up at one point, but it looks like DHL has broken through their backlog and are back to "normal" delivery times from China to the US.

It's made by DD, it's "silver grey" PU leather, and has a large flap over the USB bottom - so it's meant to be used like that in BT mode - which is how I am using it around the house right now with the BTR3k paired with the Windows 10 PC BT adapter with Sennheiser 598cs's, and it sounds great.

I like the 3.5mm sound out of the BTR3k over the BTR5, but both sound great. For headphones that want more power than the BTR3k can deliver the BTR5 steps in.

The product listing on Hifigo says "black", but it's more of a "silver grey", especially much lighter than the truly "black" BTR5 DD "FiiO" imprint case.

I'm currently on the fence on whether to buy BTR3K or BTR5. i'm mainly uses 3.5mm jack and use it wired on to my smartphone and laptop.
It seems people prefer the AKM 3.5mm sound than the ESS 3.5mm one in BTR5. As BTR5 praises mostly on their Balanced cable which i currently doesn't use.

But one thing i need to know to seal the deal the USB-DAC function, as some DAP i tried and shanlings have significant lags when it used as USB-DAC which kinda hampers the enjoyment when i game or watching videos. Does BTR3K or BTR5 have lags when being used as USB-DAC in laptops?

I have used both while listening to music without any issues.
I don't know about movies or gaming.
Sound wise they are both very good even from the 3.5mm out and it's a matter of taste , ESS vs AKM.
Of course BTR5 is more refined , detailed and double the power.
Thank you,
Currently i use Dragonfly Red for both smartphone and laptop. but my smartphone suddenly can't use dragonfly despite the dac can be used in other android. so either i replace my dragonfly or my smartphone.

Truth to be told, i prefer to replace my Dragonfly Red. Since when i bought it, i thought it would be direct upgrade from Dragonfly Black but it turns out to have different profile all together. I don't hate it but i don't particularly love it either.
Going beyond DFR is a bit outside my budget, I tried shanling M0 and but after used to DFblack bombastic sound, i kinda underwhelmed by its M0 signature, i tried Xduoo XD-05 which are freakin awesome but its way to big to be portable, and with covid i can't try any other so now, i simply seek info as trying to buy either BTR5 or BTR3K.

I think i'l go with BTR5 as i will continue to save to buy HE4xx which may need the extra power that BTR5 have.
Again thank you for the input,

Just bought, BTR5, still haven't update it or install the high performance driver.

But so far on wired mode, with 3.5mm, to PC, its so clean, clear, and have great separation. My (slightly more expensive) Dragonfly Red sounds like muffled with compared to this. That being said, DFR seems to have thicker vocal but giving less emphasis on other instrument to reduce congestion compared to BTR5.
It reminds me to Xduoo-XD-05 who also have great clean sound, separation and soundstage. But BTR5 comes in much smaller form. I think XD-05 still have upper hand on the size of soundstage and a bit more clarity but its been awhile since i listen to it.

My one regret is can't tried it side by side with DFR-BTR3K-BTR5-XD05. The audio store i frequent in is closed due to covid, so this is kinda a blind buy

Just a small help for you can be to read both my BTR5 and BTR3K review.
BTR5: https://audiofilblog.blogspot.com/2019/12/fiio-btr5-legzene-jatszo-all-in.html
BTR3K: https://audiofilblog.blogspot.com/
Both are in Hungarian language, but I checked the Google Translate version and it more or less reflects my thoughts (some parts are in English language).

As far as the USB mode is concerned I found that BTR3K improves using USB much more than BTR5, meaning BTR5's wired and wireless performance are similarly excellent.

You will find a comparison table in English as well in my BTR3K review.
