LOL of course FiiO themselves will say it's intended to be this way, so they won't have to take responsibility for broken units, complaints, or dissatisfied customers.
Fact is, I got a loose knob BTR17 and so have others.
CeThis is not to defend fiio but all the units I've had with a rotary button (ifi go blu, ibasso dc07 pro) had this wobbly side at the button level. I don't find it shocking. Now this kind of button that you can press and turn are clearly more fragile than a classic button or a simple volume wheel. But I find nothing shocking at this level.I think it's even more practical. I wouldn't worry about that.
Mine is the same, I would not consider that slight play as concerning.
My iFGi Go Blu has slightly less and both my A&K HB1 and Hiby R3 II have more play in the encoder and never caused any issues.

That 'play' is inherent to the design of this type of rotating push buttons. It's to make the press feel natural as typically you're not pushing it dead center with your thumb. Usually you're hitting it from an off center towards the top of the button. Especially if you have large thumbs. Nothing to worry about.
Hi, Aptx Lossless support in BT11 is having some issue still, we are still improving. If everything goes well, the new firmware for BT11 would be available this month.
You could connect BTR17 with other device via Aptx Lossless instead:
Received the BTR17 today and the experience is HORRIBLE!
Its such a mess that it will be even hard to describe the issue but will try.
So the Desktop mode (BTR17 connected to the external power bank) works only via BT.
When i connect the Fiio to the phone via USB to play lossless, the Desktop Mode (still having the BTR connected to the power bank) is bugged as hell. It boosts the volume but only up to 40 volume steps, then it completely stops changing loudness. The when switched to the High Gain, the volume doesnt go down so there is no difference between High Gain and Desktop Mode anymore.
The BTR17 recognizes the actual setting but the volume doesnt work anymore.
I even connected the BTR17 to a different charger and nothing.
Also tried playing through different apps (UAPP, Tidal, Qobuz) and NOTHING.
I did factory reset 2 times and it still didnt solve this weird issue.

Idk, just tried mine on my phone Samsung 21 and desktop mode worked fine. I'll try a power bank later but this was with a Wal wart. I probably won't use it because on have meze 99 classics and iems. I set it to phone, maybe the powebank wasn't enough juice?
On another note the old sr21 can't select anything other than aptx. And my Sony won't change to anything other than LDAC. Even though it shows aptX and aptx Adaptive when I highlight the button it's still ldac. So probably will need bt 11 if I want to try the lossless aptx. Where you trying it on phone or pc?
Ok i think i know whats going on. The Fiio app is bugged as hell, especially when it comes to the PEQ. Ive had the PEQ applied through the Fiio app and this messed with the volume/High gainand Desktop mode.
I switched the PEQ off and applied EQ through Wavelet and this fixed the issue.
@FiiO plz make your app usable for PEQ if possible, thank you
Ok Wavelet doesnt work with the BTR17, EQ profiles dont change the sound at all.
Seems like the BTR17 is completely useless for someone who wants to use PEQ.

Dumb question, did you upgrade the btr17 through fiio app? I've had no trouble with peq on any app or any gain or desktop mode. Works like a champ except sometimes you have to spam the save EQ button. Hopefully fiio can help, I don't have wavelet though, but if it's an EQ app wouldn't that double EQ things if you use fiio peq on top of it? If I forget to turn a system wide eq suite off it sounds terrible if I engage the fiio peq. And you by change didn't bump the master gain setting on the EQ up by accident?
Rudimentary I know, but sometimes I myself miss obvious stuff.
