(9) New over-ear headphones and speaker preview

FiiO's earliest product was actually speakers, but it was positioned as a consumer-oriented small digital speaker at that time, which was abandoned because of fierce competition.
Now our brand and products are positioned as high-quality HiFi products, and product lines are relatively abundant to meet expectations and needs of our old users. After the release of the FiiO K5 Pro, K9 Pro, M17 and other products which were welcomed by users, consumers have been starting to expect that we can also develop speakers and over-ear headphones to match these products.
Therefore, we will formally launch FiiO's over-ear headphones and speakers this year in response to users' calls.
1. FiiO HiFi wired over-ear headphones FT5, targeting the mid-end market, expected to be released in September
At present, the design is basically completed, and it is estimated that the internal test can be started next month. It adopts an open acoustic structure, a 60mm large-diameter dynamic driver, and the cable also uses the Furukawa PCOCC-A high-purity monocrystalline copper wires that we prepared a long time ago, and supports 4.4mm/XLR plugs as standard. The exterior design is surprising, following the latest design styles and elements of FiiO's previous earphones/earbuds.
Understandable doing an open-back headphone first since it's easier and they are more popular with audiophiles.
But please eventually try make a closed-back headphone, there's far less good closed-back options out there, such as untapped market

Yeah I was hoping they create a good closed back first.
Given they now have good experience with dynamic drivers was hoping good durable headphone something like Aeon Noir.

@FiiO - Sculpted speaker covers have been around a long time, but they don't always hold up long term. They tend to dry up and flake off and get quite messy :)

What audiophiles want is an audio transparent cover that can be easily removed, with a nice frame and design that looks good without the cover on it, because that is how many of us prefer to listen to our speakers, without the cover.

Looks are secondary, we need the sound to be unaffected by the cover, and the speaker frame / driver holes. Nothing fancy needed. If possible take the time to design the speaker such that the audio reflective edges around the drivers are reduced / removed, and each driver is placed time-corrected in relation to the others.

Most have magnetic attachment points around the perimeter of the frame of the cover / speaker so there are no physical attachment points. Magnetic covers are much easier to maintain than the Post/Hole snap-in connections.

I do like the built-in plenum/stand for proper height angled to face the listener at the best distance from speaker to listener.

I'm looking forward to rocking out to a pair of these when they come out :)
Dear friend,

Thanks for your kind feedback! We will also report your feedback to the designer and product manger.

Best regards

(10) True Wireless and all-in-one desktop digital audio streamer and DAC/Amp preview

This chapter is the last one for FiiO's 2022 new product introductions. We hope you can understand that changes may happen to the new plan. The available time may be changed, and there may be other new products that are not included in it. This is only a general reference.
In such a tough period, we expanded the scale of development and production, hired more engineers and technicians, sales and customer service supporters, etc. In a sense, it is also a kind of confidence in the future and a return to society. We tried our best to contribute to the recovery of society from the pandemic and economic attacks. All of these stem from the stable business philosophy of FiiO's management team and all members. Just like FiiO's new products, it may not be the best one, but it must be the most trustworthy one in terms of function, sound quality, build quality, etc.
1, TWS true wireless, see the picture below, expected to be released in July
It supports Snapdragon Sound with 96kHz/24bit transmission and LHDC with up to 900KbPS bit rate, using Qualcomm flagship TWS chip QCC5141 + AKM independent DAC/Amp AK4332. It completely breaks through the performance bottleneck of the DAC chip integrated into the Bluetooth chip. The lowest distortion is as low as 0.0014%, the signal-to-noise ratio is as high as 108dB, and the dynamic range is 104dB, which fully reaches the basic audio performance requirements of HiFi devices. Moreover, it comes with an uncompromising acoustic structure of one self-developed dynamic driver and two Knowles balanced armatures. After three years of iterations from the UTWS1/3/5, we have accumulated experience in TWS software and hardware self-engineering, achieving comfortable operating and listening experience and reliable quality. The rare four physical side buttons help to reject unintended touches. Get ready right away once you have it.
As we know, true wireless is a big market, but it is a market that is not commonly accessible to HiFi devices. The most important reason is that it is difficult to make products that are obviously different from TWS products developed by major consumer electronics or mobile phone manufacturers, and let audiophiles truly experience the differences. From the hot sales of our UTWS1 and UTWS5, we can see that what audiophiles need is TWS HiFi devices. The success of our UTWS series, especially the UTWS5, shows that FiiO can make TWS products with excellent sound quality that consumers agree with.
If you like the convenience of TWS and expect better sound quality, you can keep an eye on it.
2. Desktop digital audio streamer and DAC/Amp R7, expected to be released in October
The current design of the R7 still needs to be kept secret, because it is a brand-new product. After 3 years of R&D, we have overturned countless schemes and explored various forms, even including the form of how the electronic screen is raised. Eventually, we created a relatively optimal design in terms of cost, using experience, functions and placing method.
What's more, we have also studied a lot of streaming media, digital streamers, and webcasting products, which all have their own merits. But the R7 is kind of a master, with a higher degree of completion and a more reasonable design. If you have an idea of getting a streaming media, webcasting, or digital audio streaming device recently, or if you need a compact yet highly integrated desktop all-in-one device, or to build a desktop HiFi speaker system, you might as well wait a few months to see if our R7 can meet your needs.

@FiiO why do you keep producing products with LHDC codec when a majority of us in the west do not have other products (such as a smartphone) that support this bluetooth codec? Would LDAC not be a better choice?

It’s frustrating because they’re releasing more products with LHDC support but haven’t enabled it on their Android 9 and 10 DAP’s which can have LHDC added at no cost Other than development and testing. At least they could argue, “well buy one of our current DAP’s and you can use LHDC“. https://gitlab.com/savitech-lhdc?sort=created_asc (Now supported on Android 12.1)

Someone could also make an affordable but compact LHDC USB-C transmitter adapter. Maybe even FiiO itself.

Dear friend,

Thanks for your interest in our product.
1. Since our products are selling all over the world, we would try our best to meet most users' need.
2. Since the technology reason, LDAC Bluetooth codec could not be supported in FW5 currently. But we will make effort to check whether it could be updated in the future.
3. And according to our learning, more and more mobile phones support LHDC Bluetooth codec now.

Best regards

@FiiO thank you for your reply, its mostly Chinese phones that support LHDC codec, sadly from my point of view (maybe others as well) Chinese phones are not what they used to be since the virtual death of Huawei and the Oppofication of OnePlus, I cant see Samsung supporting LHDC codec anytime soon given they have their own codec however LDAC seems to live on and provides widespread compatibility outside China.

@FiiO Would it be possible that the upcoming KA5 mobile dac/amp could support inline controls and microphone? This is a very convenient feature to have when using a portable dac with a phone, so that a call can quickly be answered. If this functionality can be squeezed into tiny dongle adapters why not in the much larger KA5?
