So I just got my ER-4p and, as I predicted, both the fomies and triflanges are HUGE. Well, for my ear canals at least. And although I can cram the triflanges quite deep so I don't hear almost anything (great isolation!) they are pretty painful. I guess, foamies could be more comfortable but like I said, they are big - I can't get them in. So I'm asking for help, Head-Fi, could anyone be so kind and show a picture with small Shure Olives compared to Ety black foamies/triflanges? Shure Olives could be more comfortable but I'm unsure about their size.
Alternatively I could go for Ety Baby Blue triflanges, any experience with those?

Also, since these are my first IEMs, what's the "correct" feeling that I've achieved a good seal? Currently, with triflanges, I get isolation but it still feels like I have cotton in my ears (a similar feeling you get when there's a change in air pressure, ears feel like they've "shut").

Did you search the forum for insertion techniques? Personally, I find that the easiest way to insert the triflanges is with a wide open mouth, twisting+slightly shoving them in with a smooth 1/4 turn move. Some people like to wet them a little too, with saliva or oil, to get a better seal.
A good seal will be easy to identify via the sound.
Bad seal = Etys sound as they look
Good seal = Etys sound much more like what you paid for them
The best indicator is the bass. Good seal, good bass.

Some people also cut the first segment of the flanges in order to make them feel better.

Small olive vs Ety foam

I use the small olives on my Ety's and they work very well. The olives need to be used for a few days to soften them up a bit but when thats done they are very comfortable.

I just got a package of Shure soft flex sleeves from earphone solution. Man, what a relieve comparing to triple-flanges. They easily slide in like regular canal phones, so soft and comfortable.

Where did ety smile go?

Thanks for responses!

Oh, I did do that insert+twist technique with wet tips. But funny enough, after a few tries I managed to get a decent fit. Maybe my earc canals streched a bit? Who knows. But man are they detailed! I though I heard everything with DT880s but Etys helped to extract the few details I missed. That said, I still find triflanges too large.

Regarding cutting the top flange, should I keep the tube?

@GUNS
Many thanks for that, the olive seems to be rather nicely sized.

@elmohut
They will? Oh man, that's awesome, will send an email to them later. Although I have my doubts about them sending anything to Latvia.

Oh, could someone please post a picture with baby blues on ER-4p or compared to other tips?

Outside of getting customs, and after trying out pretty much every tip possible with varying results (comfort but no seal, and seal but pain being the way it usually went), I got these:

They're made for smaller ear canals and give me a good seal. They're also comfortable for long periods of time, though it sometimes hurts it you don't angle them when removing them. I ordered mine from HeadRoom.

Prior to this, I'd been using the Shure Olives, which are very comfortable, but I wasn't getting the seal I wanted, and sq suffered.

boomana - I know the Klipsch Image ear gels aren't available for purchase yet (I got mine with the Image) - but I found them to be much much better than the Shure olives, because, like you - I couldn't get a proper seal. The Ety tips are way too big for my ears and really hurt, but the Image gels are small and supple, and they're oval, which seems to fit my ears much better than any other shape. And the Etys sound so much better with a decent seal - as I've found out!
Plus they stay put and don't budge at all. They're very comfortable.

Where to get them, and how they affect the sound?

Sent an email to Etymotic, will be interesting what kind of response will I get. But, damn, there are so many eartips I'd like to try (olives, flex tips, bi-flanges, baby blues, klipsch gels etc).
