Yesterday Fedex delivered my new speakers and sub. The sub looked fine physically but does not function properly. It looks as though it was dropped hard enough to completely break the internal protective foam into several pieces and split the box open in two spots. The shipper has filed a damage claim and Fedex will supposedly be contacting me to schedule a pickup.

I’m just confused about why Fedex wants to take the item back. Wouldn’t the easiest thing be for Fedex to send someone to verify the damage, then I get it repaired and send Fedex the bill? I fear that once they get their hands on it I will never see the sub or my $ again. Anyone have experience with this type of thing?

Take lots of pictures and cover your investment.  You do not want to be out money if someone makes the situation disappear.

I have had a similar situation with $5k+ damaged parts from fork lift damage.  We clearly recorded the damage with picture from start to finish and proved that the shipping company damaged the hardware.
