Last night I did something I hadn't done in awhile. I brought out my .fi 5 pros hooked them up to my rockboxed X5 and listening to my fav bedtime album. My favorite bedtime album is Illinoise by Sufjan Stevens. Really, it's one of my favorite albums of all time but it sounds soooo good in bed with .fi's listening at -40db and replaygained.

So what are your favorite bedtime albums?

I've been listening to Charlie Haden&Liberation Music Orchestra - Not in Our Name. It's a great album arranged by Carla Bley.

But...

I have been listeing through the speakers. I am always afraid that I will fall asleep and damage the headphones.

I have two, one jazz and one rock/folk.

The jazz album is:

Marilyn Crispell/Gary Peacock/Paul Motian - Amaryllis (ECM) this is one of my all time favorite piano trio albums and makes for great late night listening, very well recorded with lots of detail and a good feeling of the recording space.

The Rock/Folk album is:

Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks (Columbia SACD) - a classic from a master.

Sufjan's Michigan or Seven Swans fit that bill. Probably my favorite bedtime listen is Ron Carter and Rosa Passos Entre Amigos. That has the perfect feel for me. Other long-time faves even before cans, are anything by Felt and Cocteau Twins.

ambient music in general is great music to fall asleep to. except for lustmord...
  1. hammock - sleep over series vol 1
all hammock pretty much for that matter. this is a perfect cd to drift off to
  2. slowdive - souvlaki, and just for a day
    Perfect.
  3. steve roach - mystic chords & sacred spaces
  4. brian eno - discreet music
The title track might be one of the best ambient songs ever. the classical remixes are pretty good as well

I'm I the only one that likes a little slap and a tickle to get me to sleep.

Anything with a good groove and not too fast bassline ......

I've always liked falling asleep to Neil Young's Sleeps With Angels. It's such a drifting, sleepy album (go figure, eh?). It's just so good at killing whatever energy I might have. Such a downer...in a good way. On The Beach has the same effect, but it's too good to fall asleep in the middle

The last few months have been either of Tord Gustavsen's discs; The Ground or Changing Places, Brad Mehldau's Art of the Trio Vol.3: Songs or Charlotte Gainsbourg's 5:55.
