I was listening to The Rolling Stones album Voodoo Lounge tonight. Love Is Strong is one of my favorite Stones tracks.

Unfortunately I just can't seem to have my CD drive burn the opening drum roll. It comes out cut off. No matter how many times I try to rip it and I've tried two different drives to do this. Strange I know.

So the favor I am asking is if someone could maybe email me a Flac or Alac file of this song. I'd be willing to trade for another song from my library. I could download the song off itunes, but it's really important to me that my music collection be stored losslessly.

Thanks:)

P.S. when I listen to the CD straight from the player it sounds right. So I don't know how to fix it.

I don't have that CD to check, but my guess is that the drum roll is in the pregap part of the track. When you rip it the pregap is probably getting appended to the previous track (that is the standard way to do things when ripping). When you start that song on its own you are going to miss the drum roll. If you play the previous track and go gapless to the next track you should get the drum roll.

To fix that you can rip the whole CD as a CUE file (using Exact Audio Copy) then use a specialized CUE splitting program to split the tracks. The specialized programs will allow you to select whether you want pregaps prepended to the track. Split out that one track with the pregap added to the beginning of the track. The rest of the tracks you may choose to keep the gaps at the end of the tracks, or whatever works best for that album.

Two CUE splitters that I use:

Medieval CUE Splitter or CUE Tools (scroll down to the bottom of the Wiki page to get a link to the 1.9.5 development version). CUE Tools is more advanced. Both programs have their quirks.

Here's the help info for CUE Splitter about pregap:

Include pregap in splitted file
If you check this option, track pregap will be added at the beginning of splitted files. If you uncheck this option, no track pregap will be added on splitted files. I remember that track pregap can contain silence or important audio data, so take care about this. For example, track pregap of a liveset, can contain the song introduction while a classical album can contain pure silence.

Invert pregap direction
If you check this option, track pregap will be added at the end of previous splitted file, instead of at beggining of current. This option is enabled only if include pregap in splitted file is checked. NOTE - Track pregap of first track will be lost. You can decide, for example, to put song introduction of a liveset at the end of each track: music start immediately and the introduction of next song will be stored towards the end of track, when the real music is over.

Edit: I just checked the track listing for that album. "Love Is Strong" is the first track. So yup, If the first track has a pregap with actual music in the gap then it is getting lost by most ripping programs with their default settings.

I know nothing about Macs. Can't offer any suggestions there. Do any of the ripping programs for the Mac have an option to add the gaps to the beginning of the track?

At least you know what is going on now so you can hunt for a solution.

Are you ripping with iTunes?

Try any other free ripping program- I can't think of any at the moment (I use iTunes myself), maybe a thread in Computer Audio is in order?

Yes, if you really want to use EAC and you have an Intel Mac then use BootCamp to install a Windows partition on your Mac. That way you can dual boot your machine between Mac OSX and Windows. Alternatively you can try Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac and install a Windows virtual machine -- though performance would be better using BootCamp.

Mac Virtual Machines and Virtual PC. Automation and Virtualization Software for Desktops, Servers, Hosting, SaaS - Parallels

I don't think you are going to find anything as good as EAC for OSX, but I could be wrong.
