I remember reading an article about the Philadelphia Orchestra members. There was mention that some of the members of the orchestra have never spoken to each other but they've been in the orchestra for many years. Some for a few decades. So basically you have some people who are working together but they are strangers.
I have also heard that in some small towns, you could see the mail man or supermarket employee for many years and you will be familiar with each other's existence but still remain strangers for many decades.
I remember being in college and seeing the same faces of other students for 4 years. We would see each other but never speak. We would know of each other's existence but we were still strangers.
I'm not saying this is bad nor am I saying that this is good.
I'm just simply stating the phenomenon that people can know of each other's existence for many years, decades or a life time in the same building and still be strangers.
