Falling with Style - X Games Skateboarder takes a major fall

My son bought a .22 for his daughter to carry when she goes fishing down by the river.

She'll be 7 next week. I know it's not saying much, but she's been to the shooting-range far more than I have this year.

She may know the difference between a gator and an airboat, but I'll still keep her walking in front of me and facing forward as much as I can.

....and no; she's not really allowed to wander off. And yes most of the gators around there ARE bigger than she is!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with owning a gun as long as said owner knows how to use it responsibly and abides by the NRA rules; even if its a 7 year old. As long as your son has trained his daughter well, (and if she's had first had experience at a gun range like you say she has) then there's really no reason to worry.

Exactly. Oh and those that survived with TBI's, it's a very high price to pay. Head Injuries are devastating.

BTW I meant I know OF two people. Didn't know them personally. Although i met a few survivors in the hospital.

Basically.. Don't do it! Especially with a gun in your waistband. That's like asking for trouble.

Oh and I agree with F107, there's no way I'd want ANY 7 year old wandering near me with a loaded gun. Thinking about it..I'm not sure a .22 would do much to a gator.. hmm

In fact I kind of wonder who takes a 7 Year old to the range in the first place...

but hey, it's a free country.

I've actually seen her shoot and she's really pretty good! And my Son is a darn sight better than I am! So I don't feel too nervous about her skills.

....she still acts a lot like a six year old when she doesn't get her own way!

Naw, I don't think she'd actually SHOOT somebody!

Seriously; no, I don't worry much, and she really hasn't taken the gun outside without strict supervision. I'm the odd one in our family. Most of them have more guns than I have phones. Lots of familiarity there.

Totally different story. That's what was missing in your original post. I'm calm now.

It's holstered. Unless it's a really crappy holster and his shorts are belted on loosely, it won't fall out. If it doesn't fall out, the trigger's covered and it won't go boom. The whole car towed skateboarding thing though. Probably not too safe.

Still don't know why people get worked up over legal carry though. The vast majority of states in America allow any non-felons over 21 to apply for and have carry permits.

Oh yeah, because I'd feel so much better seeing a father with a gun standing beside the gun-holding 7 year old.

To each their own, but isn't that a little illegal?

That video did look funky though, poor guy. Great landing though, almost perfectly executed, he just didn't slide fast enough and hit his head. Would have been a little better if he let his back roll on the ground instead of smacking down and sliding. Guess it's just 2 opposing schools of how to fall.

On a seperate note, there are no recorded crimes occurring in the last ten years by a legal concealed carry owner using their weapon. Basically, legal gun owners aren't criminals, and criminals aren't legal gun owners. Would you all have preferred he take his gun out of the holster to take the picture? That seems less genuine than what he did.

Gun ownership is a protected right by the US constitution, and statistics prove that crime rates are lower in areas that allow for lawful individuals to carry concealed weapons with the proper permit. It's the unlawful individuals who cause problems, and they can get guns regardless of laws.

I've fallen on my keys before and that bloody hurt, a nice lil handgun jabbing up into your kidneys, hip, or worse (you all know where i mean), that's GOT to hurt.

Of course, that road rash is gonna hurt like hell anyway, but that's what you get for being reckless.
