Fake Senheiser IE800?

I have these: https://www.earphonediylabs.com/shop/diy-kit/ie800-in-royal-blue-diy-kit/

I kept them because for the price they sound pretty good. If someone wants them (in a couple days after I do a comparison) $40 shipped and they’re yours. Mine have the original xmb drivers as I wanted them close to the original ie800.

6occ cable.

i also sent the eBay seller a message with a bit of a warning about trying to sell me a diylabs knock off. I’ll see if he cancels the order rather than risk feedback and dispute status.
Yours has a long straight nozzle. The ebay one has short angled nozzle and can only be used with original ie800 tips. diylab has the same setup for 100$. Btw the short angled nozzle with original tips is the closest to the original IE800 in terms of sound quality. Especially that eartips have very very big affect on them. I tried other eartips and it sounds completely like a different iem.

I got a refurbished ie800 on ebay for 175$, I thought that was fake but since it had 30 days return and my roomate had authentic pair I gave it a shot. Compare to original one the exterior of this refurbished definetly looks fake. However the sound is exaxtly same with a louder volume on refurbished one. Both me and my roomate can't tell the difference, not sure if it's a fake one which has the almost same sound as original or it's a real one refurbished with fake parts.

could you post a picture of the exterior difference you mentioned? Or any other differences when comparing these with the originals? It would be super helpful identifying fakes.

The diy labs 7mm Chinese driver is inferior to the German one. I haven’t heard the ie800, but on the diy labs the bass distorts under certain demanding tracks, but overall sounds decent enough for its price.

the diy labs one also didn’t come with authentic looking cables and such. He clearly advertised it as a knock off. overall it’s a decent little iem, so I’ve kept it for a while.
I havent heard the Earphone DIYLabs 7mm but I've got 2 of the DIY with the 8mm Tesla in them and I'm super impressed with them. Like most (all) iems tips make a huge difference but with Tenmack Whirlwinds and and Final Audio Type E tips they are pretty stunning. If you order direct from DIYlabs, I usually get them in about 5 to 7 days delivered from Beijing. (And No, I'm not the ebay seller) but I've delveloped a pretty good relationship with owner having bought a set Xelentos when they used carry that and quite a few custom cables in addition to the 800s. He's a good guy, tells you exactly what you're getting and doent hide or cover the truth.

After doing some more digging I sent a message to the seller saying I think they’re fake and to cancel my purchase. If he ends up refusing I’ll just go through ebays counterfeit department.

They are fake indeed, but it's interesting to compare it with the original one to see the difference lol. You can always return even after you get it anyway.

The easiest way to tell even without an original ie800 is to look at the nozzel and mesh. Most of the fake ie800 has very dense mesh while the real one has a mesh that you can easily see through inside. Also the eartip tray on the nozzle is much smoother on the real one. I suggest you to find the nozzel and mesh photos of real ie800 for the comparison.

What do you guys think of this one? Seems real or fake? I’ve got some other photos but these seem to be some of the trouble points...

If you cover the bottom port an leave the top open, not a whole lot happens. Maybe you loose a bit of sub bass extension. If you cover the top port and leave the bottom port open, everything under 100Hz completely disappears. Closing both is the same as closing just the top. I bet the fakes don't do that.
Only just now I stumbled upon this old post, and just for curiosity I tried it with my trusty rusty IE800 clones/fakes.

They behave just like you described for your legit ones. Closing the upper vents leads to (estimated) 10 db or more loss at everything below 50 Hz. I didn't test higher, and my clones with the open vents go well down to 20 Hz.

Well, this is a very old post. Fake ie800 nowadays behaves almost the same as original, even the sound quality is very close.
