Surprised how porely the Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 EB faired. Not surprised about The Plug, everybody hates it, poor guy, he just wants to produce nasty sound without any bother, but no, everyone just ****s on him.

Um...they said the Etymotic Research ER6 has upper frequency reproduction that is, "lacking" I don't know about anyone else but defining the upper frequency reproduction of the ER6 with the word lacking would be the farthest thing from my mind.

The review states that they are entry level and not audiophile quality, I would combine the two, they are near entry level audiophile canalphones. The Shure E2C, now that is an entry level audiophile canalphone.

THen on the Shure E3C review they guess what the freqeucny responce claimed by the manufacturer would be, interesting how they can quantify what many have said is a useless statistic without proper bassis for measurement, but they seemed quite comfortable to go ahead and guess at the numbers.

I don't understand their review of the etys. I haven't heard the 6's but I own
the 6i's and can't imagine them being "lacking" in the upper frequencies. Do
these people have hearing problems, or did they just not have them inserted
correctly?

Oh well, to each their own.

At least their assessment of "the plug" was on the mark

same here with the 6is. and i don't understand how you can say "we wish they were more durable" when there was no mention of anything breaking, they just said they thought they felt delicate. seems like shure might spend a bit more on image than ety.

Exactly, it's discrepancies like this that make me wonder if ANY review I read on the web is actually trustworthy.

Ety's are reknowned for their crisp, bright highs. That's what I love about them, Grado style highs in an earbud.

I am surprised that they did not mention Sony mdr-ex71 or mdr-ex81. Both of them are not that expensive and definitely much better than that koss plug.

I am relatively sure from the comments made in the review that audiophiles were not used in the production of the piece. Hard working personal electronic mogules maybe, but their best efforts cant hide the fact that they have not wasted their lives trying to find the best Hi-Fi headphones out there.

one more reason why you can't have comp tech site review hi-fi equipments. extremetech might as well review cars just because they have mp3 player inside.

the other reason they can't be trusted is because review sites like this often inflate their ratings. its more like an advertisement for companies that are willing to compensate the reviewers. its just a guess, but maybe shure provided the test samples, and the reviewer added the etys and UEs to make it more of a comparison. i'm just speculating, but it seems like the etys were definately underrated.

That is a posibiltiy. I doubt it however, I am note prone to belive conspiracy theorys, although I wouldn't put anything past corporate anything, small buissness big buisness, anything. When money is at stake lots of underhanded things can happen. But the scale of this review and its distribution level would lead me to doubt that there is any pay off going on.
