I love the detail of my 702's, but the cable is about three feet too short for my room and furniture positions. I tried AKG's nominally 15' coiled headphone cable, and I also tried a 3' extension made from Canare L4E6S Star Quad cable and Neutrik connectors (this was used with the cable that came with the phones). Each of these pretty much obliterated the detail that is characteristic of these phones. So, still searching for the affordable solution that would leave the 702's sounding the way they came out of the box, I decided to go with AKG's own cable. I bought the EK 300 replacement cable, cut it to the length I needed, and soldered a Moon Audio mini jack on the end where the mini XLR had been. Voila -- a $40 headphone extension cable that changes absolutely nothing about these phones. Just thought I'd share the idea.
