Exploding Penguins bloodfest!!!!

I have been thinking of doing something for the headfi commuinity for a while now. But I need some advice on how to go about it.

I want to give headfiers a chance to listen to some headphones. Representing the dynamic cans are:

Sony MDR-R10,
Grado PS-1,
Grado HP-1's

Representing the Electrostatics are:

Stax Omega 2's,
Sennheiser HE60's.

Obviously I would have to include an electrostat amp. But I wouldn't include a dynamic headphone amps as 99.9% of headfiers have one. This is to save on shipping cost and size of the parcel.


I was thinking 2 week time limit after the selected headfier who I know and trust, recieved the package. I would like to make this available to headfiers who don't hold regular meets or stuff compared to our American/Canadian brethren.

For Example, I talk to quite a few headfiers in Germany via PM's and posts but never had any transactions with any of them yet I still trust them enough to send them the headphones. Do you think this trust is unfounded?

Yet I don't know any headfiers in Hong Kong or China, so i wouldn't feel comfortable sending it there.

Any thoughts or suggestions. I am hoping to get some ideas so I can get started on planning.

You sir, are a bald face liar. This thread contains no content whatsoever concerning penguins or explosions. And I'm becoming rather suspicious that a bloodbath will not be taking place. To say that I am thoroughly disappointed would be an understatement.

this would indeed be an extremely generous gesture to do. Very, very good indeed, as it would give the chance to many to listen to headphones otherwise unattainable. As to ideas how to go about, hum, difficult, given the value of the items in question. How to evaluate a trustworthdy party, that is the question...

GoRedWing a very generous offer indeed. I would like to suggest that you consider besides sending your headphones to that lucky headfier, sending them also to Headroom for technical measurements like freq. response etc. Check this thread for info, in particular, this post by Headroom.

nope, your opinions on the cd3k and R-10's are well known. There is no need to send you something you already have the opportunity to listen too many times already. I would like to give the opportunity to headfiers who have not had the good fortune too and let them make up their own minds.

Actually, there were not so many times, just a few....But you know, I still have that flavor in my mouth that I'm really missing, like a good wine....well nobody could blame me for at least try.....
