Experiences with Comcast Broadband?

Well, I called SBC and it looks like I cannot get DSL. Although, according to the latest news on DSLReports.com, people are not happy with SBC DSL in California.

I am moving from Redondo Beach, CA to San Pedro, CA.

I am going to miss Verizon DSL.

So it looks like my only option is Comcast Cable.

Anyone or know someone with experiences with Comcast in the Los Angeles area, San Pedro specifically?

I guess they have an introductory period, for $19.99/month, but after that they're about $50/month.

I'm happy with it. It's pretty standard.

I can't wait till I leave for Canada... Rogers High-Speed Extreme... mmmmm.... 100 kilobytes of upload bandwidth. Yum.

Since I won't need a land line anymore, another problem is using a fax machine at home. Would VOip work with a fax machine, or am I going to have to use something like WinFax?

Maybe I should start another thread about this question.

Vonage has a fax service, I'm not sure how is the quality though, You can try it for us

Same here, got Comcast cable in Chicago and no complaints. It's 3Mbps down and 256kbps up. I routinely get 2.5Mbps down and 220ish kbps up on real world file transfers. I've had occasional periods of downtime but not any I can remember lasting more than a half hour. Most have also occurred late at night (after midnight). I think I pay $42/month for it now, though I also have Comcast digital cable and they cut you a break on the package deal. Basically cost what I was paying for dialup + second phone line, so it was well worth it. They also give you 25 megs or so of web space which isn't a whole ton, but it's nice for hosting the occasional photo or a small personal web site.

I had a few hiccups with Comcast service in the NJ area but that was due to the fact that 1. our household was a subscriber to the old Comcast@Home service which was upgraded to the Comcast High Speed Internet service and 2. all of the physical lines were being upgraded so they can handle 3MB/S download and 256KBP/S upload speeds. After all that was done, it's been running smooth. I typically get 3.8 MB/S download speeds througout the day or night provided my brother isn't using his damned infernal DCC++ program and it's been very reliable even during bad bad thunderstorms in my area. So far, so good.

I have it here, with hd cable also...the whole package...about 140/mo, Internet service is just about what elec shows...occasional DT, but minor.

O.K. for the next few months, till something better comes along.

Had Comcast Broadband since last October, no serious problems, very fast, we have a router and share our connection and even when the Miussus and I are on together we still get a pretty fast connection.

I have had comcast since it came out here in Indiana. The only problems with it were a couple of years ago and more recently some that were caused by severe weather.

No issues with Comcast in the No. VA area. Good download speed and not much downtime except when they were upgrading the pedestals and doing work on the poles outside my building.

Two knocks for comcast: tech support does not exist and they have a hidden download cap that they refuse to tell you about until you go over it, at which time they cancel your account. This cap is not mentioned anywhere in the agreement.

That's a real problem for me just a few towns over, Welly Wu. Download speed is highly dependant on the local network traffic. High bandwidth users in the neighborhood lower speeds for everyone.
