Hi all,

Found this through a friend's link :-

J.BÜRGER.AUDIO Kopfhörerverstärker Headphone Amplifier High End

Looks like a very special amp : 60W power dissipation, ultra-wide 1.5Hz - 900kHz bandwidth, ultra-low distortion (max 0.0003%), no volume pot, pretty expensive, and thin - and was said by the Germany audiophile circle to be the BEST single end headphone amp, period.

I would like to know if anyone in this forum has learned about it, or listened to it ?

Right now I am considering an upgrade to Rudistor RP010BMKII or .... (fill in the blank), so any views and opinions would be most helpful.

I think so. Many DACs like the Benchmark DAC1, Lavry DA-10, Grace Design M90x have variable output in their line out and that will make a perfect volume control.

Somehow I think the Experience X1 acts like a power amp - which means one would need a preamp upstream.

I looks like this was designed for a mastering studio and hence they would be able to control the volume digitally.

It seems quite common in some circles to use a digital volume control in a high quality playback program such as Foobar 2000. There is an example on the Beta22 website where another user built one without any volume control (I think he was German too). They say with 24 bit audio the noise floor on the divisions is so low that it's inaudible.

I still think I prefer the good old fashioned resistor but of course in theory the digital should do the trick better because it introduces no frequency response to the system (whatever minute and inaudible amount there would be) because there are no extra wires.

You're shopping for some great stuff

I'd look at a 3 channel Beta22 too though you'd have to wait a while for it to be built. Or go balance and get a GS-X (I'm convinced it's the best value around).

Got a friend Juergen (who is also a member here) who knows German and this is what I get from him :-

The Experience X1 is a strictly class A operation, zero negative feedback, producing 30W headphone power per channel, a solid state circuit topology with 60 (!) transistors inside the amp.

Usually 300mW is needed to drive any kind of headphone. Massive driving power gives a maximum control about the headphones diaphragm. The lower threshold frequency (-3dB) is smaller than 1.5 Hz, the upper threshold frequency is higher the 0.9 MHz, the slew rate is under 20 nanoseconds. That means this amp has a huge bandwith at cyberspeed. It works on 220-240V, permissible ambient temperature is 10-35 grad Celsius.

There is one rca stereo in and only one standard ¼ headphone out. That’s it. A very puristical concept.

The manufacturer recommend GRADO RS-1/ PS-1 for this amp, I tried it with Senn HD650, to my ears better than my PS-1, no gain switch, the amp cannot overpower any headphone because its gain factor is only 1.

Looks like this is an "end-all" beast, and I wonder we can fry eggs on the casing top

For US$2,500+ it is not that expensive compared to many "top-tier" amps.

Ask him if they are willing to ship one for tests, I am in Holland and willing to pay the shipping charges, but have GS1000 only. However my friend KEES can drop by, cos he have a lot more...

Well, I will try. But he is one of the amp owner, but not the manufacturer so I am not sure....

But it looks like he may be selling his amp to his local community.
