Well, I am aware that the problem is actually *me*, not the software

Can anybody tell me which are the steps to follow once the tracks are extracted and saved as separate wav files on my hard disk?

I simply do not manage to click where I should

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

I generally go check that there were no errors, click on Ok, then the view log (or whatever its called), I click OK.

At this point Lame should be running encoding your songs ripped with EAC.

I am ripping cds to mp3's onto my apple ipod, so once i see that tunes have begun to encode I start loading them via ephpod to my ipod.

Hope that helps. you may want to check out chrismyden.com site and he has a step by step set up of eac/lame......

On mine I just drag a group of .wav files into the EAC window and it starts compressing them automatically.

Of course you should set all your compression preferences beforehand.

Thank you, Fkelly5, taoster and ai0tron for your replies and comments.

The fact is that I don't use LAME, which I understand it's a compression tool. I don't want to obtain mp3s, I just want to make perfect 1:1 copies from audio CDs.

I used to use Nero and/or Easy CD Creator, but, suddenly, I noticed that a CDR made with Nero had some clicks and pops. Horror!

OK, then, I said to myself, if it's like that... I will use EAC from now on. I heard it's the best of the best of the best, Sir!

Actually it seems it is, but, unfortunatly, my burner (Yamaha CRW8824) is not able to burn with EAC (or EAC is not able to burn with my Yamaha writer).

So I extract tracks from the CD with EAC, save them on my hard disk in .wav format, then I close EAC, open Easy CD Creator or Nero and compile the CDR with the .wav files from the hard disk.

Everything seems now OK, the resulting CDR plays fine on a CDplayer, but, if I try to extract the tracks from it again with EAC, it gives errors ("sync error").

This makes me believe that in fact the CDR is not perfect, but that it has imperfections which are more or less corrected by the CDplayer during playback.

Or is it just because EAC extraction is unforgiving and reveals imperfections which were not revealed by the other softwares?

Anyway, here I am, transformed from a happy listener of CDRs burned with Nero into some freak paying less attention to th music and more to identifying possible clicks or hisses

Sorry for the long story.

As a conclusion: should I keep using EAC for extraction and Nero or Easy CD Creator for writing, or is there a better solution to obtain PERFECT COPIES from audio CDs???

Thanks again, folks!

You're worried because EAC won't rip .wavs from a burnt CDR?

You've already been through the Coaster Factory Tutorial so your EAC is configured properly.

http://www.ping.be/satcp/tutorials.htm

You've posted at the EAC board and haven't had any luck there either.

Have you tried other apps. for burning? Feurio is nagware and is good, but you need patience to set it up properly (just like EAC). I would prefer that to Nero or EZ CD.

If you are simply transfering one CD to one CDR use the ALT F7 key command.

As an alternative to EAC, try CDex.

pigmode,

Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, I had already configurated everything according to that site, I looked for some answers on the forum...

... and when I was about to decide to get a new burner, I said to myself that I have to give to the current one one more chance. I opened it and cleand the lens with a microfiber cloth, then aspired it. There was nothing visible on the lens and not much dust inside, so I was almost sure that there will not be any positive result.

Wrong. I tried to copy a new CD and this time it worked

So now I am happy... at least until it causes new problems.

The problem is now that I lost my confidence in it, so that I will have to check each copy by trying to extract the tracks from the CDR to see if I get no errors...

Being a perfectionist brings (mental?) trouble

I installed also CDex, but I guess I will uninstall it... please give me a reason to keep it, if there is one

As for using Alt + F7: I can't use this, because somehow I get an "image" and something named "cue image"... I think this is not a problem if one creates the CDR using EAC, but I can't because EAC is not compatible (as for writing) with my burner

So I have to proceed in the following way: I extract the tracks with EAC, then I close EAC and open Easy CD Creator, I create an image using the tracks, then I create the CD using the image.

If I try to create the CDR using the image obtained with EAC (and simply leaving apart that "cue image" thing, because it does not fit anywhere in Easy CD Creator), I obtain a CDR without separation between tracks (I don't mean gaps, but the possibility to go directly to track nr. 7, for example).

I am sorry if I have transmitted my headache to you, dear reader

This might help you out...

http://pages.cthome.net/homepage/eac/clone.htm

Any app like EAC or CDRWIN that supports Cue sheets will allow you to make perfect copies of your CD when you perform digital audio extraction using EAC option for CDimage and Cue sheet. The cue sheet basically tracks the timing of all tracks and gaps so that is how the single huge .WAV file gets parsed properly.

Actually, I've never had a problem using Nero to burn CDR when I've extracted indiv WAV tracks from a store-bought CD.

You may also want to obtain some better quality CD media if you haven't done so already. Mitsui and Taiyo Yuden are widely acknowledged as premium quality media manufacturers.

Good luck!

Thanks for your inputs. Finally I got angry and bought a new burner suported by EAC, that means I will (hopefully!) be able to extract tracks then burn CDRs using only EAC.

Now I have a new question, this time on Nero: when compiling a CDR there are these 2 seconds gaps listed by Nero... is it advisable to replace them with 0 second gaps?

Would some information be lost (that means, original tracks shortened with 2 seconds), or not (that means, no supplementary 2 second gaps added between the original tracks)?
