Now, I feel like I know good quality sound. I'm a jazz musician, and I play in a rock band on the side. I regularly attend classical performances, and I have season passes to the opera. I know exactly what real instruments sound like. I've heard best of the best of the best gear, in headphones (orpheus through singlepower, r10 through B-52), speakers (Wilson Audio through Boulder amps, coltrane speakers through Halcro), and mixing/mastering consoles (Manley, NEVE, etc.) BUT...

I prefer my HD595s to HD650s. Amped and unamped.

Am I broken?

The frequency response of the 595s may just match your own head/ear physiology better than the 650.

I like it. I always knew I had head/ear physiology.

That is EXACTLY how things started with my grandfather. He died 3 days later.

Yup, your ears just prefer the sound. It happens to all of us sometimes. I prefer the Float 2 to the DX1000.

Now if you said those 595's sounded better than the R10 we might have Head-Fi issues...

Well, I'll just chalk this up as my first of many Fitz-like eccentricities here on head-fi. When you see me in other forums touting how much better the 595 is, or how stupid i was and how much better the 650 actually is, please just ignore me as if I had a noisy child in a restaurant.

I prefer sometimes my k81's to my 595's. It depends on my mood and on the music i just want to listen to

By reading the first part in the original post, I kinda getting the feeling that you're stating that the HD595 sound better/closer to reality than the HD650. Since you're stating that you know exactly what instruments sound like..?

But I'm guessing thats not what you're meaning..?
(No offence meant by the way

, just curious to know why you stated that?)

As far as preference goes, I prefer all of my cans to the HD595. (PortaPro, K26 & SR60)

No, I don't necessarily feel the 595 are closer to reality. I used to intro to give you some background on where i was coming from -- i.e. I know what real sound sounds like, and even then I prefer the (generally thought of as) less accurate 595s to the (more accurate) 650s.

maybe I just like my sound "coloured"
