We know Sony has overextended itself recently and suffered compared to standards set by its past. There are signs of change. First MP3, now this. Can't believe that decision was taken likely, and may be a sign of new 'bold' changes in the future. Lets hope this extends to portable audio!

Ya i saw that on the news today. I dont think it will do too much for us though, i mean what would having an old white guy as the head of sony do for us? Mabey he'll help guide sony to making a product that can seriously compete with the 4G ipods and even the 5G in the future but then again he could send sony to it's grave too... I dont know if this is a good sign or a demonic omen. oh well take it for what you will.

I really hope sony can come back with a much more open format NW-HD4, etc. But this guy is originally from their entertainment business? I hope he doesn't side too heavily with that division as that has been bogging down Sony electronics for the past years. I dont know what to make of this yet, could lead to some major changes. either sony electronics will come back and become a relevant factor again or it could mean their entertainment division has won out and will be dictating things completely from now on. I always thought the guy who was in charge of the playstation division would be next to lead Sony.

The newest HiMDs play mp3 directly. You can even search by artist, album etc (and even by cover art on the DH10). So they're more like an mp3 player than the old MD (CD player like). It's really good. I'm looking forward to the next thing they pull out.

Yes that's EXACTLY what we need. Microsoft for software and Sony for hardware. Who needs choice?

God, I'm so tired of hearing these ignorant, one sentence "screw apple" comments by newbie posters... yeah, screw Apple, and then we'll be stuck with Sonicstage for our music libraries-- blech.

there are ways around the disturbingly slow read/write rates of hard-discs. getting one portable is a diferent story.
