Hey Head-Fiers: I have asked this question several time but I have gotten mixed answers. I want to know if you have to clean your ears often if you want to use the Etys ER-4S. I know I could get used to the in ear thing but I cant get my mind over the ear wax thing. If you do need to clean your ears frequently what methods do you use. I will never use a Q-Tip because they are "dangerous". I know some people use different methods and I would love to hear advice from you guys because I just cant get a consensus on this issue. If I do need to clean my ears every day I will probably get the HD600s. Hope for some good answers, thanks in advance.

well my experience with the e2c's showed me that the foams pretty much cleaned up any other shiznit left in my ears after I had cleaned em out with cotton buds and some rolled up tissue paper.. just sold long as u dont have big clumps of wax biuld up you should be fine, so clean em regularly. but not too much ptherwise u'll irritate the ear

Every day is not necessary, your ears just don't make wax that fast. I clean my ears about twice a month. In between when showering I rinse them with warm water. For a good cleaning I use a few drops of a commercial ear cleaning solution followed by a warm water rinse with a syringe. The first time you do this you may be amazed at what comes out of your ear. Once they are clean I find that it is very easy to keep them that way.

I used to be pretty relgious with cleaning out my ears everyday, but i've found that etys seal better when you've got a bit of wax in there. Before giving them to other people, i rinse them off with some anti-bacterial soap, but other than that, i don't do much in the way of precautions.

but don't forget that the wax is there for a purpose, ie to protect the ear drum from foreign particles, so you might not want to be squeaky clean...

i don't have ER4's, but i've got the ER20s which are similar, not headphones though. First time i put them in, the wax was minging so i cleaned my ears a bit, but now i'm not too worried about the amount that comes out on the tips cos its not that much and it washes off the plugs with warm water, maybe not the phones though...

Thanks for the replies, I did some research on those water siringes, however you spell it, and they seem pretty good but it must feel weird having water go in your ear. I will buy it if you guys think they work but I think it will take some getting used to. I guess you only have to do it once every 2 weeks or so.

Just make sure you use warm water as the ear is sensitive. THe last thing you want to do is burn the inside of your ear.
