I don't really know if I like the idea of a phone placed in one's ear canal, but after reading a little about the Etys I must admit that these phones started to interest me...

If, (mind you, I said if), I'd buy one of the phones mentioned it would be for portable use, and so I guess the ER4Ps are generally recommended. I am a detail-freak though, and I suspect that I'd like the ER4Ss better.

I also noticed that Headroom sells some sort of adapter converting ER4Ps to ER4Ss.... does anyone know how well this works?

Thanks!

Honestly, I think the er-4p will reveal much more detail and will sound better out of a portable. They will only sound slightly inferior in combination with an amp. Either way, purchasing the cable alows you to convert the er-4p - er-4s. It will increase the resistance and will basically turn the er-4p into the "s" version. I would definately recommend er-4p, and then if you feel like using it at home, just purchase the cable. It's a much more versatile choice.

I got the ER4 P/S adapter, and honestly for the first two weeks I listened to them as ER4P's, since then I have never done so again, although I've been thinking of trying it again, its nice to have the flexabiltiy.

Yes the ER-4P will run better on portables, but even the P version begs for a good amp to sound its best.

My ER-4P on portable or straight out of a soundcard, while sounds very nice, is so flat and lifeless compared to what it can do on my maxed out META.
