I love highs....that clean, well controlled sweet swishes.......

Time for some IEM and ER4S comes high on my list. I am madly in love with MS-1 sound signature, will ER4S deliver the same? This for noisy outdoor use and biking

I haven't heard the other headphone in question, but...

IMO, Etymotic excels in the highs department. There's a wonderful sense of space about the music -- I am obsessed with having accurate sound, and Etymotic does not disappoint.

Again I have not heard the other cans in question, but if you like highs, you will like the ER-4P. Plus they're not very expensive right now. I think they can be had for around 180 USD.

For what it's worth, I'm an ER-4S fanboy who really likes the MS-1. So, probably you'll like the ER-4S...I think. And yes, you'll get sweet, well-controlled highs, if you get a good seal, and more so still if you have an amp.

...but for outdoor use and biking? I wouldn't use ER-4S's for that. The cable is awfully microphonic even indoors and not moving much.

What I use for outdoor exercise is the ER-6i, which has a lot of family resemblance to the ER-4S sound, is a lot easier to drive from a portable, and most importantly, has a relatively non-microphic cable that can be made even less noisy by looping it over your ears and down your back* in the style of Shure and other similar IEMs. I think it's a very good compromise solution, at least for an Ety-lover.

*there is a small trick to this: remove the shirt clip from below the junction of the cables, and reattach it above that junction. Now you can slide it up and use it to hold the cables in place behind your head when they're looped over your ears, the same way the Shure sliding plastic sleeve is used.

Aaaah these are good news for me and bad news for my pocket

I specificly gun for 100Ohm ER4S because I will run them with my LDM+ and I want to skip that hassle of upgrading 4P to 4S. Microphonics I can tolerate, even my cheapo HJE50 canalphones now is sickeningly microphonics, but a careful tuck under the shirt and an alligator clip solve that. Oh yes when I mention biking it was more of Motorcycling actually, yes I know it's dangerous but I have been biking around with my HJE50 plugged underneath my helmet which effectively render me almost isolated from the outside world.

Thanks! decision has been made.

PS:
I came accross some all black ER4 on the net. Those are exactly the same with the traditional red/blue ones?

Yes, only not as cool. Plus, they don't match the Ety smile.

Check to see if the all-black ones really are ER-4S. When I spoke to Etymotic three or so months ago, the ER-4B and ER-4P were all-black, but they were still selling through their stock of red/blue ER-4S and expected them to last quite some time.

Ah yes, I did some research and all those black ones offered are ER-4P. ER-4S still retain that classic red/blue.

Any hints on where to get the best deal (international order) for this ER-4S? there's a lot in eBay but those are for ER-4P. I really wanna skip 4P and go for 4S. But if someone can convince me it's a simple swap of cable for 4P to 4S then I may end up with a 4P after all.

Thanks again!
