Hi i tried fiio and shure cables and these do not fit, i wonder if anyone has successfully fitted any (balanced or unbalanced) cables to the er2 or er4 iems?

The Ety specific MMCX connector can be found online quite easily if you want to build your own cable. Otherwise, there are ready-made as well as custom-ordered cable you can also find online, which will have to above mentioned connector.

Did you find an aftermarket cable?
I've heard that you can file down the ends (the plasic) of the etymotic ER-series, and use most cables with a MMCX connector.
I might be mistaken though, I do not own a pair (yet)

You can, but you will lose warranty. Besides, the extra notch is there to stop the MMCX connector from free-spinning and thus prolong its lifespan, filing it down means it will likely to fail earlier than it should.

It it allows me to wear them over ear without microphonics (which have seriously out me off in the past!)

Can all the ER2/3/4 IEMs use the same kind of cable? So that cable would work for ER2 as well?

All ER series that use that same notched MMCX connectors can interchange their cable.

I’m an idiot, but what option do I choose if I’m using an iPhone with the lightning to 3.5mm jack? There are a few to choose from on the page.
