I've just bought a new 40 gig 4g iPod, and I'm trying to find a set of quality heaphones to go with them. I've sort of decided to go with either the Shure E2c's, E3c's or the Etymotic ER-6's, but I was wondering if you could all please make some recommendations as to what I should get.

I can't really afford to get the Shure E5c's - if I could, I'd be considering the Etymotic ER-4's as well, but I can't, so I'm trying to decide whether to get E2c's, E3c's or ER-6's.

HI: I found the E3 to have better clarity but go in the ear canal a bit. The E2 have better bass and have a more fun sound plus with the silicon tips don't go in the ear canal but to the opening of it and are more comfortable for me. Also the E3 might insulate a bit better than the E2 but the E2 does a fine job of it. I never heard the ety er-6. Wait I think I had the E6 for a short time but sent them back rather quickly.

ER-6's painful high-end hurt my ears. Bur for non-critical portable use, sound great.

The Etymotic website says that the ER-6i's will be avaliable in mid-August, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. The problem is, I want to get the headphones within the next few days ideally, or asap, so I dunno if i could wait that long for them. I've been hearing that the bass is a bit low on all of these, though, so do you think that I should get a pair of Sony MDR-EX71SL's as well as whatever I finally choose, for listening to bass-heavy music?

Sony Ex71 seems to be a good way to introduce you to the world of isolator earplugs. It's very a special sensation, cause, you'll hearing your internal biological activity !
At the first time, it made me a little bit seek to have something deeply pluged in my ear.
Er4 are more isolating than Er6, so, if you walk on the street, make sport with it (specialy runing or cycling) it will be safe to choose Er6, even if, with your budget you can buy Er4 (http://stores.ebay.com/idealsound and send an email to know the right price)
