Hi guys (and gals), I'm new to Head-Fi and this is my first post. Just picked up a 4G 20Gig iPod and I'm looking for some decent IEMs. I've read most of the previous threads on the pros/cons of ety vs. shure and I think that I am leaning toward Etys. Obviously the ER4P are my first choice, however I think that I would prefer the behind-the-ear type cords commonly found on the Shures and other high-end IEMs. Does anyone know if the ER4p or the ER6 phones can be adjusted for wearing the cord behind the ear? Obviously sound quality is more important but I think that I'd prefer behind the ear cords. Any comments/suggestions? Thanks!

They don't naturally fit that way, you just have twist them that way if you want to wear them behind the ears. There's people who modified them in the past by using a zip-tie that helds the cord in that position, and people who had taken parts of Earhugger earbuds and modified the wires using those.

Thanks for the comments, lindrone. Are the er4s and er6s both mod-able/twistable to achieve the behind ear fit? Do you think I'm better off going with a Shure E3 instead or do you think the mods/twisting suggestion is good enough. I guess I'm just trying to find a good compromise between fit and sound. Thanks again. Anyone else have comments/suggestions.

Tell you the truth, I think they look pretty nasty with the mods... I wouldn't wear them out that way. You can probably find either of the mods by using the search tool... there's threads with pictures and such describing the mods.

You can always try to twist the cable around behind your ears, it's just a matter of what they look like after you did something like that. Whether or not you'll be better off with Shure products depends on what type of sound you're going after. Their products are all made with wearing behind the ear in mind, but if you know you like a specific sound, you should probably just go for it anyway.

With that said, Shure puts more thoughts into their ergonomic design than Ety does.
