Well... I Just ordered these from TTVJ about five minutes ago.

I needed something that would allow me to listen to my music from my iPod in a fairly noisy environment. Also, something that was portable. Right now, my only cans are Grado SR-225 which isn't exactly portable, but I had no problem taking it to school. BUT, I did have a problem with hearing my music, lol.

I mostly listen to rock, with a little techno mixed in there (Crystal Method, Massive Attack, etc).

Do you think I'll be happy with them? Thanks

FYI they are on recall. Maybe somebody can provide you with the announcement. They tend to come off in your ear when you try to remove them.

Anyone able to contrast these with ER-4P?

I just sent mine back today, i didnt like them. I dont know what causes them to come off in your ear but i would guess the "suction" Thats one of the reasons i dont like them. When i put them in it builds an air pocket and pushes against the drum of my ear. The ex71 is a better design for comfort

Im going to try the shure E2s insted.

i like the ER6i a lot better than the ER4. the ER6i have been recalled from resellers, not from individuals. i contacted Etymotic about it, and they are redesigning the Tri Flange tip, to solve the problem. Etymotic is supposed to send me some tips from the first batch. i'll let everyone know how the new tips are, as soon as i get them.

It's usually just a matter of equalising the pressure to get rid of the pressure, pretty easy to do as well.

they come off because the tube isn't wide enough to grip the tri flange properly. i don't have a problem with "suction".

Why do you like it better than the ER-4P?

the ER-4 is no fun. no bass, or warmth, overly "analytical". they also hang about 7 feet out of your ears, so i don't think they are very appropriate for portable use.

So the ER-6i has better bass response than ER-4? I had been concerned with an overemphasis of upper midrange based on the response curves with the ER-6i. Can you describe overly analytical? To me, accurate is good, but harsh is very bad.

Thats another thing i think about the 6i, they have a plain boring sound. I wanted them to work thats why i paid that much but they just arnt the phone for me. I like the feel of the EX71 better.

wow now im confused... keep my ex51 or get the 6i... if its that similar in sound then its not worth getting a 120 dollar canalphone.

No, i doubt it sounds similar in sound. I'm almost positive the er6i's will have better everything. Clearer highs, more controlled mids and tighter bass.

it might just be a personal preferense of the sound signature. you really cant say they sounds similar.
