I am looking for a full sized can (open or closed) that comes close to the sound of my ER4Ps. I would amp them via current AE-1 and future GLite or GS-1. Was thinking the SA5000s would be my cup of tea but I have never heard them. Looking to stay under $500. Thanks for any advice.

The Stax would require a special amp right?

Just worried about owning the Sonys. Fear of the cheap cable. Although I have priced a Black Dragon recable already.

The SR-404 is not like the ER-4P. They are both brighter than the Senns, and both very detailed, but that's about where the similarity stops.

The closest that I've heard in a full-size headphone is the AKG K501. The K501 is very well driven by the Hornet, if you want an amp for it (and you'll need one, the K501 is very hard to drive).

For what it's worth the K 701's I listened to at the Miami meet last month sounded like my ER 4P's so much that I immediately ordered a pair. (Still waiting for them to arrive), but the time I spent with the 701's impressed me with their detail and tonal balance.

Any word on the K601 being close to the 4P? These are in stock and very affordable to me.

Thanks.

I now know the DT880s will be my next can.
