Basically what the title says... what difference is there? The ESW9A are about $50 cheaper than the ESW9 for me. I have heard that the ESW9A is just a different kind of wood, is this true? Thanks.

Hmm. I just did a quick google search and another head-fi thread said that the ones without the A are made of Japanese Cherrywood and are the older version, A models are African Paduak. Still haven't come across a definite answer, though.

That MIGHT mean a slightly different sound because there would be different resonances.

the A version is overpriced, import the ESW9 :p

yeah i did seen those cherry and african woods around, but the cherry are used on the EW9... thou thats for certain.

Those are street deals probably... cause the retail is $480
or probably the ESW9A is actually an ESW9... which it is ... just a model number haha or no change at all?!?!

Hi, sorry to resurrect this thread, but apparently, there's a difference in esw9a and esw9 according to graphs by headroom. I guess the difference is pretty subtle though.

ESW9A is EXACTLY the same as ESW9, even the box is the same and the only difference is sticker on the back of the box. I have ESW9A and I've seen ESW9.
- both are EXACTLY the same,
- both are made of paduak, NOT cherry.

I would not assume by now the boxes are not the same.

They are not for the es7.

Also I see a difference in the frequency response graphs.

This may be due to one unit more "burned in" than the other, since the signture very similar.

I would leave that to you as being "subjective", but for me,

I would choose the esw9 over the esw9a :p

Yes old thread. . . the graph could be just the difference in the drivers since I doubt drivers of the ESW9 series are not matched or tested closely.
