Does anyone have experience with either of these two headphones on an airplane?

I am wondering if they block the outside noise well enough so you do not have to listen to them so loudly.

It does not look like they completely enclose the ear and that is my worry. If these are not a good choice, what would be?

I do not necessarily need noise canceling just some other can that will make it so I cannot hear as much noise and the music will not be as loud.

These cans are not for me they are for my dad and I will not use them on an airplane, but instead as a secondary portable to my LiveWires.

Thanks for the input

They won't cut it. I traveled with them on an airplane back from Japan. I didn't even try to use them, they block out some noise, but it won't be enough. I used my HFI 780 on the plane, and they just barely cut it in my opinion, some of the engine noise still leaked in. But the ESW9 isolate significantly less than the 780. Lovely phones though...

Maybe try the ATH-ANC7? If I were to do it all over again, I'd just get some noise canceling for the plane. ...or some IEMs, but I can't stand those things.

Neither one of those.

I agree with Than. ANC7 would be much better.

Alright thanks, I guess I will just bring along the 780s for my father to use. Then that means after all, I will need to purchase two portable amps.

Thanks for the input.

Sennheiser HD-280pros had just enough isolation for me on a couple of long domestic flights.
