Er6i Disassembly?

Long time listener, 1st time poster.

My out-of-warranty er6i's cable got busted, anybody taken the body apart to solder on a replacement cable? Is that thing glued shut or what?

yep u got it, its a send in im afraid, ask etymotic nicely an see what they say,i know your out of warranty but etymotic and shure and westone and so on have a name to keep

Bull!

It's not hard. You just need a steady hand to keep from melting the housing when you solder in the new cable. I used an iBud cable.

You'll need some clear 5/8" heatshrink tubing. Just about an inch and a half of it.

If etymotic will replace/repair, groovy, but if they won't, this is how it's done:

damn! you do sound cheesed off. i was speeking on behalf of the average customer thats not too confident with DIY which is why a send in would be good

He asked how to disassemble so that he can solder in a new cable - it's up to him whether or not he thinks he's up to it.

Frankly i think it's pretty easy work if you have a pointy enough tip on your soldering iron.

Thanks guys! that's exactly what I needed.

The old cable is all messed up, it needs a brand new one, plus I always disliked the old cable.

Firing up the Hakko.
