I am using the ER6 foam earpieces now. The silicone ones are hard to keep from clogging....they get wax into the filter so I had to replace filters often.

The foamies seem to work alot better.

But how long do they last? They seem to pick up a lot of wax in the foam. Anyone had ear problems using the foamies?

I have the Er-6 and I didn't use the plastic earpieces after the first week - they were just pure torture! In contrast the foam ones are quite comfortable for multiple hours. I haven't had much trouble with wax on them, but I clean my ears with q-tips every second day or so.

The foam tips on the Er-6 were definitely better all round for me: comfort, isolation, overall sound quality and bass. I have small ears, but I don't know if thats a factor as well in the fit.

I have found the ER6's to be bass shy. I think they really do need an amp.

In terms of that feeling of accuracy, you can get it without the amp, but yeah, given the choice, they have that missing "umpf" when I plug them into my porta corda II.

I use the foam tips on my ER-6s. Some days for as long as 8 hours. The foam does collect the stuff your ear puts out. After a while they just won't expand properly to acheive a good seal. Mine go around 2 weeks before needing replacement when I use them everyday. I keep my ears clean and generally have a regular foam earplug in just prior to using the Ety's, the earplug cleans out the ear where the Ety's go. I have tried washing the foamies, but that doesn't seem to work very well, I can only get another 2 or 3 uses out of them after washing before they quit working very well.

Please note that I use mine in a very noisey enviroment and when they don't work for me they may be fine in a quieter place.

When I washed them, I used a liquid body soap. Then I rinse them by squeezing clean water through them many times and I run them in a bowl of water in the microwave to heat them up a little bit. That seems to make them expand back to the original size. Boiling them just seemed to mess them up.

edit I have never had any ear trouble using the foam tips. I hardly ever have them in for less than 2 hours at a time. Usually 4 hours or more a day, 6 days a week. I keep them in that little plastic box they came with when I'm not using them.
