Hi,
recently I noticed that on one transducer of my ER-6 the soft and transparent plastic coating has a fissure. I think that this comes from the finger nails during putting out the phone.
Is there anybody with the same problem? What can I do?
Thanks, helaha

I don't abuse my er6's and have short fingernails, but the same happened to both my right and left phones. I have no idea what can be done, but I'm sure that selling them is gonna be impossible.

OTOH, sound hasn't been affected

I pull them out by the cable...

I know, I know. It's an "Aw ****!" waiting to happen.

But it beats digging in my ears for two hours.

Probably this problem could be solved by using something like a shrinking tube used normally in electronics for isolating purposes. But is the material of such a tube skin friendly?

What's a fissure?
Mine have a small split on one of the earphones outer clear cover. I think it is from sliding the cover on and off trying to dry out the insides. That has been there for about 9 months now and it hasn't grown. There have been no new splits, or rips or what ever's since then either. The other phone has no marks or defects.

I find that plastic membrane design kinda percarious. Sometimes I have to push a toothpick or paperclip underneath the plastic to clean out the accumulated dirt.

Mr.PD,
by fissure I mean that the soft transparent plastic coating of the transducer is broken (fissure, split, crack...)

I think that this coating is not thought to be put away for cleaning or so by the user, but it clamps not very tight and therefore the problems are there.
Thanks, helaha

That is what I thought you ment.

The people at Etymotic told me that I should not be removing that outer cover. They said that it was not designed to come off, and that was the reason that mine tore.

Honestly, the split in mine hasn't seemed to hurt anything. Well, other than resale value.
