Hello,

I occassionaly use my ER-4P's out of my Gilmore Lite to listen to music; however, it seems a little too bright and caustic for me at times. Anyone have the ER4P to S adapter cable and would like to input some of their experiences with it, namely:

1. Is it effective?
2. If so, what particular components of the sound changes...
2a. Out of an amplifier?
2b. Out of a portable player?
3. If not, why not?

Thanks!

1. Yes
2a. It gets leaner and (even) brighter -- and of course sacrifices efficiency
2b. Ditto, but at the same time most portable players offer better low bass extension thanks to the higher load impedance
3. obsolete

1. Is it effective? Yes with an amp.The music will sound better with the adapter.
2. If so, what particular components of the sound changes...See 2a.
2a. Out of an amplifier? Sound is a bit larger more open I would say lusher. I would add that with the adapter some of the not so well recored music, the slight hiss you can hear with the very sensitive ER4P, may be gone or at least reduced.
2b. Out of a portable player? Not so good.
3. If not, why not? Out of lets say an I-Pod you would be be able to listen with the volume all the way up (and it will not be that loud) and it will still sound thin.

Just a thought but you can get a P to S adapter from Headroom or Todd and if you don't like it you can send it back, but my bet is you will keep it. Good luck and as always the above is in my opinion.
