Can anyone comment on how well the ER4-S works with amplification?

I recently drove them with a stronger source and noticed possible driver "crackling" during demanding segments of different kinds of music...

Should a proper DAC/AMP be able to drive these without any sign of stress well above the threshold of pain? Yes I know i should be careful not to lose my hearing... Unfortunately for me I was an orchestral percussionist for over a decade and turns out that clashing or walloping away on cymbals a foot away from your ear all day long is not so great for them (measured loss of over 15% in both sides).

I understand that they are simply a BA design and that inherently this can be challenging, but would love to hear some first hand experience if anybody cares to share. :L3000:

I'm also looking to validate the fact that my ER4-s are not broken...

I run my ER4 (not the S) off a Cmoy amp and it's sounds great. I also run them off a stereo receiver and have ran them off my Shiit Audio Magni 2 Uber. Not sure if that's helpful or not since it's not the ER4-S.
