I probably read every word on the forums about these (and e2c, d-jays, s.f3) and
it seems like:

ety's er-6i
-Very clear, excels in treble, highs.
-Lacking bass
-more analytical sound

westone um1
-"Gradoish" (Good midrange)
-Very comfortable
-more musical sound (more bass, less clarity)

is that about right? I listen to hip-hop but I wouldn't sacrifice clarity for bass. I'm leaning toward the um1 based purely on presentation and comfort. Coming from just the marshmallow's, I really don't know what the um1's are missing out on. I'd get d-jays but I can only get them in white.lol

UM1s, for the reasons you have listed, and also ER6i's have extremely bad microphonics, meaning everytime you rub/move the cord, it makes a ugly noise! UM1s are sweeeet!
