Hi,

I am currently using Ety ER-6i with my ipod mini. This is my only source. I was wondering if it was worth it to upgrade to ER-4P ? I kinda tempted especially since you can get them for around $200. I like the Er-6i sound but there is too little bass when used with my ipod. If I upgrade to ER-4P, will I get more bass ? Is the sound that much better than the ER-6is' ?

Thanks for your help

In my opinion after testing them for a short time, I found the treble quality of the ER4P to be twice as good as the ER6i, and with the adapter to convert the ER4P to the ER4S I found the treble to be about three times as good as the ER6i, and that is with an amp. The ER6i with an amp sounds inferior to an ER4P *without* an amp.

Compared to the ER6i, the ER4 is a revelation. You can't really compare the 6i to the 4P or 4S, they are completely different beasts. Sure, they're both canalphones from the same company, but the sound quality is so far removed from each other that you cannot really compare them even though some people have attempted to do so, including myself, but I have to break down and assure you that the ER4 will crap all over the ER6i in a big way. Treble is better, midrange is better and even more interesting, the BASS is also better, it isn't as emphasised as the ER6i but it's much tighter and far more detailed and it actually goes deeper into the lowest extensions.

Midrange is not bad with the ER6i, but the bass is not as deep or tight as on the ER4P, especially with an amp.

The sound quality of the ER4 really is a whole lot better than the ER6i. If money is no object get the ER4P and get the adapter as well. Then get yourself a good portable headphone amp. This will give you the audio nirvana you're after.

If money is an object then the ER6i is worth a try, but do not expect to be blown away. ER6i are pretty good in their own right, but they will never touch the ER4P/S, not a chance!
