So glad i stumbled onto this place!

My first visit here so hi all.

I'm a UK resident & as all our stuff here is stupidly overpriced i ordered a pair of Etymotic ER-6i's through ebay from an american retailer around march this year at a substantial discount (Thanks ebay!)

Problem is, now after some hefty usage that the stereo jack conection seems to have become loosened inside & the left plug doesn't seem to work anymore without some cable wiggling going on.

Anyone know if this kind of fault is considered fixable under the manafucturer warranty? & if being a UK resident & purchasing the phones abroad i've somehow voided the warranty before begginning?

I've acyually emailed Etymotic customer service deparrtment asking the same thing but that was wednesday & they have not replied yet which leaves me listening to some sony ex-71's which i really aint enjoying after the ety's.

As much as i love the ety's if they're not fixable i'd like to order something different thats a bit warmer & bassier ASAP & put these sony's back in the cupboard.

any help appreciated.

Thanks.

On Wednesday they were out of the office, celebrating their independence from the UK.

They'll probably get back to you next week.

As for the fault, it can be fixed. Do you mean to say that there is a fault near the plug or a fault where the cord enters the driver?

Fixing the 1st is simple for anyone who knows their way around a soldering iron. Fixing the 2nd requires a very steady soldering hand but is totally doable - I've done it.

Cable is loose near the plug, not the driver.

I have used a soldering iron once to solder the cable on to the tweeters in my car. Does that qualify for knowing my way around one? :-/

I'd be very grateful to know how you can get into the jack to repair it if i cant get it fixed on warranty.

thanks.

Well, you don't. I mean it's possible, but not worth it.

You chop off the cable above the plug and install a new plug.

The answer to my own question is ys they are covered by warranty.
After a second email to Etymotic i got a reply & am told an rma number & details of how to return the earphones are on their way.
