After much reading on IEMs, I am tending towards buying some ER-6 (not the ER-6i). However various posts mention comfort and fit issues.

I bought some cheap IEMs (JVC FX-77) to see how I would go. The 12mm (medium) single flange tips seal well, but become uncomfortable after an hour or so. The 10mm (small) tips don't seal properly.

So are the ER-6 with double flange tips likely to be an issue? Can someone tell me what the diameter of the first and seconf flanges are?

I don't really want to go with foam tips, as I will be travelling for several months, and don't want to carry a bag of foamies with me.

Thank you

ive always had comfort issues, and i loved the two flange er6 things so much that when i upgraded to er4p's i used the 2 flange for that too.

they're really comfy.

i'd tell you the size but i just sold my ety's :P

If you are getting the ER6 and not the 6i, than hopefully you got something powerful enough to drive it well since ER6 is a lot more difficult to drive than 6i. Never have the ER6 before, so can't help you on the tips size.

My ER6 silicone bi-flange tips are: (non-metric/sorry)

first (largest) flange- 7/16" at the thin part which easily compresses to 5/16" at the thick part.

second flange- 3/16" at the thick part.

Overall length of tip (depth in ear) is 3/8".

Thanks for the dimensions GreatDane. The sizing sounds like it should suit me just fine.

Thanks to Nihility for reassuring me that the silicone tips should be comfortable, I guess in general posts people are more likely to mention the lack of comfort, than the other way.

Finally thanks for the heads-up ClieOS. I will mainly be using these with an iRiver T60. Some quick measurements say it should be able to drive the ER-6s to ear damaging levels! I will check my iPods as well, but I am unlikely to use the ER-6 with those.

The double flange for Er-6 are very soft & supple. I think you'll find them comfortable. Like Nihility I also used them on ER-4P/S - the depth did not bug me as much as the triple flange which really go deep...and ER-6 are lovely sounding. I'd say a good 60-70% of what you get in ER-4.
