I was in the Maryland Airport about a month ago and was at one of those 'airport wireless' headphone stores and was looking at the displays. I was compleatly suprised to see what i thought were etymotic er-4s but they were in a small box, with out foam tips or the large carrying case. I asked to try them out and they sounded great (unamped from my ipod). They were the last generation etys with the blue and red moniters instead of the all balck.

They were priced at 125$ and they had been bumped from airport to airport becasue they were not being bought. The guy said he would cut me a deal if i decided to get them, but i had just ordered SF5pros. Now the sound like they might be a good idea, but has anyone heard of Etys being reboxed like this?

The small carying bag was exactly the same as the etys, except it said another name on it (maybe herophonic, but im not sure). The guy at the store said the company was out of business.

anybody with thoughts?

If they are the StudioPhonic HEAROS they are indeed re-branded etymotic

But they had a strange marketing strategy of rebranding etymotic with less accesory, you have less eartips, and selling them at a higher street price than real etymotic

There used to be a mention of HEAROS on etymotic website; however, it's is no longer there.

So are those ER-4S or are they just ridiculously overpriced? Either way $125 isn't bad, especially if they were willing to deal. I'd sure be tempted by it.

$125 is a very good price for ER-4S if they are indeed ER-4S. Herophonic as the op reported do not exist. But StudioPhonic HEAROS are a legitimate re-branding of etymotic

HEAROS are only overprice if you consider those fine example below

Hearos

vs
Etymotic

In the OP case If I understand correctly they were trying to get rid of them so they reduce the price.
