Equinox or Cardas with dry-sounding solid-state amp?

Well, I seem to encounter dilemmas no mater which products I have to choose between, and this time it's a cable-question.

I mostly listen to classical music, and I like string instruments in particular, most of all piano, cello, violin and harp. (I know that they don't sound the same, sorry if it causes troubles when giving advice :p)

I'm currently using the Harmony Design Ear 90 Headphone amplifier, and even though I absolutely love the dynamics, the amp sounds a little dry to me. The thing I'd like most is a sweeter sound, but I am truly a detail freak, and I love nice treble, so the Cardas seems to be a good choice.

Some people seem to be of the opininon that the Equinox has rolled-off highs, but as long as they are better than those of the standard cable I think I would be satisfied.

Well, based on my preferences, which cable would you go for?

A sweet sound would be the most importatant, closely followed by clarity of details. Extended treble would be nice, but it doesn't necessarily have to be much better than the stock cable.

I would greatly appreciate any help!

I've ordered the Equinox cable, but due to high demand it won't be shipping till July 13th. If you'd like, I'll break it in and have a good listen to some piano trios and string quartets, after which I'll report back here.

I'm afraid I don't have the Cardas cable on hand to compare it to, though.

I'm not in a hurry or anything, that would be awfully nice of you

If I had to pick one, I'd say the Equinox.

But I really think you are probably a candidate for a different amp. As good as these cables are in their own respective ways, they don't really change the character of your amp to that degree, IMO.

While i can see an argument for the cardas with tube gear, i felt that the equinox was simply the superior cable. Just my humble opinion though

Headroom seems to think that the Cardas is the best (with HD600's) for classical music. But this would probably be more of an amp issue.

I feared this reply when I started the thread...

Actually, I believe that the problem is my my old Sony CDP... I'm thinking of buying either a NAD 541i or a Denon 2900, but as I haven't heard the Denon 2900 yet, I thought that I could upgrade my cable in the meantime. It's a lot cheaper too

Now the amp is just a little tad dry, I could easily live with it, but if such simple a thing as changing a cable would make a noticable difference I'd hurry to exchange it.
