Equinox cable for my 701s?

I have some standard 701s and use the Pico for an amp. the Equinox cable seems to be the most popular. Do you think its worth it? If not then do you have another recommendation? The reviews at Stefan will have you think the new cable will add sound stage and low end clarity.

i bought the Equinox for the 701, but i ended up selling my 701 before i put it under the knife.

If i was going to go all the way, i would definitely get the Equinox all over again. It comes with new AKG parts for the right cup to make it look OEM rather than drill/cut up the right side pieces for the cable exit. I read the instructions and i would definitely not do it myself. The 701 driver is way too fragile.

I recabled mine with SPC in a balanced configuration and it constantly gets raved about at meets when people give it a listen. Nothing against Equinox, mind you. Just offering a less expensive solution that yields terrific results.

what was the impact of the recable? did it impact the highs, mids, lows, soundstage, etc. and how much of that can be attributed to the balanced configuration?

Unfortunately, I can't answer your question. I had a pair of K701s and in a fit of stupidity, sold them. Soon after I was pining for them back. About 6 months later I was able to score a pair for relatively cheap but that's because they had been butchered during a DIY recable job. So I took them completely apart, painted them black and recabled them to balanced. So I really can't tell you the difference it made. Sorry.

I would ask Francis (fkclo) as he has a pair of AKG K701's recabled with SAA Equinox cables. I think he also has a stock pair too IIRC.

ive had stock, cardas, zu, pure silver, and equinox for 701. and i liked the zu the most for 701. equinox was just about okay, to me..
