Is it better to do eq in patchmix or in foobar? Or vice versa? If so, why?

Also, I don't think I really understand patchmix very well, for example, using 1-band para, is the lowest band to tweak 80hz? Not lower? Would someone be able to post some screenshots of a simple bass boost?

when you wish to increase the bass use a single band fx then simpley choose the "thunder bass" preset for example and you're done.
anyway, bass isn't just at the 80hz frequency. since it covers frequencies a bit higher and lower you use the "bandwidth" setting to adjust what frequencies will be raised. the higher the bandwidth the farther left and right of 80hz it will spread out. does that make sense?
i didn't feel like reading the manual and so i just experimented like everyone until i got the sound to what i wanted.

i'd show ya a screen shot but i have nowhere to host it.

oh yeah, to me the fx in patchmix sound better than foobar's equalizer.

Patchmix's DSP is 10x better than Foobar's. It proved that my 650's have more bass than my 10" subwoofer. You can crank it to ridiculous levels before any distortion, unlike Foobar's weak processing.

Though I've never seen a "Thunder Bass" preset. I like the 150hz level of the "Bass Tightener" preset. The 4-band eq at Full Band sounds good with trance and some pop, but horrible with all else.

I have the 1212m and cant find the "bass tightener" preset... are there additional downloadable presets or somthing?

i would imagine that the the 0404 has all the same presets as the 1212M but anyway, here's where i saw it.
fx menu -> core effects -> 1 band para eq - drag that over into a strip. examine its presets.
"thunder bass" is the 7th one.

the "bass thightener" is a preset for the "1 band shelf eq" which is located in the core effects section.

I hope you didn't forgot to press the autolevel button which ensures that the highest band is at 0. Any band over 0 can cause very bad distortion.

Does anyone mute their mixer and monitor on patchmix (i.e. straight send to PCI)?

I was messing patchmix the other day and set it to send and return to PCI 1/2, bypassing the mixer and I immediately noticed an increase in quality. Small details jumped out and the background seemed much blacker. I don't know if the mixer causes the signal to be routed on a different path but it really made a difference. I lost volume and balance control but I can adjust those with my amp and Foobar.

Where is this autolevel button of which you speak?

Oops, Im using the shelf, not para. What's the Bandwidth level signify in the para eq's?

"Oops, Im using the shelf, not para. What's the Bandwidth level signify in the para eq's?"

bandwidth indicates how wide the band of frequencies that will be increased/decreased.
whatever your center frequency is, frequencies to itsleft and right will be affected as well.

page 45 of the patchmix manual.

it gives you a nice picture too.

Bass tightener is the Shiznit.

My SR200 is sounding like my old MS-2 now- YES!

I'm afraid to put on the Darth Beyers.

No clipping, no smearing, no muss no fuss. Just big bass. No need for a trim pot.

Man I'm lovin' this.
