I was wondering if someone could compare the sr60s and the sr80s for me. I have never heard either of them and I need to make a recomendation to a friend that has been using craptacular headphones for his whole life.

Basically, what advantages do the 80's have over the 60's? Is it worth the ~$30 difference to someone that will think that whatever he hears is worlds better than what he's used to?

He mainly listens to Rock and Alternative music, and a bit of punk. He is using a pcdp ith no amp...pretty basic.

Thanks for reading this and for your responses

They're very similar headphones. The SR60's are easier to drive and personally I like them better than the SR80's. The SR80's really need an amp to shine. The easiest thing to do is sit down with both and listen to a couple CD's. You can always order them both from Todd and send back the ones you don't like...

Thanks for the reply. I guess all that I needed to hear was that the 80's aren't much better than the 60's, and could really use an amp.

Thanks again

The pads make a big difference.

Comfies (SR60s) vs. Bowls (SR80s)

I'd spring for the Alessandro MS-1s over those two, but if you must take one...

I prefer the Bowls (SR80s) over the Comfies (SR60s) in sound.

Currently listening to: "Give it Up" by Public Enemy on my Koss Porta Pros

I have 1 pair of SR60, and 2 pair of SR80 and i agree with crazyfrenchman27. The SR60s have the stock flat pads and they sound warm. A little thick on the bottom and the highs are a little more smooth. The SR80s with the stock bowls sound more bright then the SR60 so they sound like 2 different cans. When i switch the pads i cant tell wich is wich. Its what you prefer. So if you get the SR60 you can get the bowl pads and have both.

Thanks for the thoughts.

I am getting the sr60's for him from a fellow head-fier. (in the for sale forums right now, for $48) I trust that this is a good deal. Since he has never really listened to anything besides stock cans, or his late great v300's

, I am sure that these will do the trick for the price.

Thanks again
