Recently my gf's Sennheiser HD212's puked out on her and I would like to get her a new pair as a small gift to her. She pretty much only listens out of her laptop and MP3 player and has no desire to use any kind of amplification, not quite as obsessed with headphone audio as I am. I do remember she really liked the 212's but after they died she went straight to walmart and bought a cheapo $10 pair which I just can't handle so I would like to find her a pair of closed headphones that are decent and don't cost anymore then $60, not a lot to spend but I'm sure theres got to be a few good pairs in that price range. They have to be closed because she doesn't like open headphones sadly. I don't really know much about headphones in this category but was looking at the Senn. HD201's, 205's and then possibly just another pair of 212 Pros. Most of these are considered fairly decent sound according to Headroom. Anyway, if there are any other headphones I should be considering or if anyone has heard any of these I would deffinately be open to some advice or any information you can provide. Thanks again!

I won't be using them and I probably will just end up buying her the same pair she had but was hoping I could find something else for her that might be even better, for all I know though those could be the best up to that price range.

You should consider the Sony MDR-V6, too. I owned a pair for years before coming to Head-Fi and loved them. They're good headphones that don't get as much love as they deserve around here.

Retail is around $75-$80, but I've seen refurbished ones go as low as $49.

^ Could be great advice. If she went and bought $10 cheapos and hasn't complained then it may be pointless to spend money on decent phones for her. Some people just don't seem to care about sq. I hate to keep using my fiancee as an example, but.. She could be listening to my home rig one minute then ibuds the next and not be bothered at all.

This isn't the only thing I plan on getting her besides she said she wanted to get better headphones when she got a chance but that she didn't have the money for better ones. Anyways how do the MDR V-6's compare to the 212 Pros? Anyone know?

I own or have owned the three cans you're looking at. Hd205 clamps a lot and they are definitely the less comfortable headphones I've ever owned. HD201 could be a little hard to drive without and amp and if she is used to hd212 bass they could be weak on bass if unamped. From the three in your list, I think another pair of 212 could be just right.

Maybe you can also give a try to HD228, they seem to have good reviews (I'm going to try those on the next days too) and AKG k518DJ (bass heavy and a bit uncomfy, but fun and worth the money in your price range).

Hope this helps
Cheers

I think most people who don't care about SQ/fidelity, are atleast impressed by the soundstage. It's a real wow factor to them when they feel as if they are listening to speakers and the sound is coming from around them, rather then in their head. So maybe a cheap pair with decent imaging would do well...
