After 3 years this is our last run, and both to celebrate and to say thank you, we bought all the last of the T20s, T40s, and T50s to do one last run of these phones, all on sale.

Here's the message that went out tonight:

Yes, it's true.  We are discontinuing ALL our headphones based on the Fostex T50RP driver.

Why would we do this when the products are selling so well?

First, ETHER shows MrSpeakers can now build headphones from the ground up giving us control of every aspect of the product.  Second, Fostex has discontinued the T50RP2 headphones and announced RP3 replacements.  Pricing and availability are not yet announced, so rather than wait and re-engineer our modifications we've decided it's time to focus on developing more all-new headphones.

We're a long way from making any announcements, so we'll simply say our goal is to meet a wide variety of price and usage needs.

To celebrate the end of an era and thank our customers, especially the Head-Fi community for so much encouragement and support, we're holding a "Thank You" sale for our entire line of T50-based Mad Dog and Alpha headphones.  These will be the last we make, and once these Alpha and Mad Dog headphones are gone… “That's all folks!”

Mad Dog:  $299.99 now $269.99
Mad Dog Pro: $449.99 now $379.99
Alpha Dog: $599.99 now $499.99
Alpha Prime: $999.99 now $799.99

All sales are final.  Sale headphones are not eligible for the 15 day return program.
NOTE: As a courtesy, we will refund the difference between sale price and purchase price for orders placed or shipped after May 1, 2015.

Will upgrades/tune ups still be available?

It's interesting that you mentioned the T20 and T40 drivers.  Was any of these drivers (T20 or T40) used in any of the Mad Dog / Mad Dog Pro / Alpha Dog / Alpha Prime line of headphones?

No, because the costs were close to the same, but since the T50s were gone we bought the last of them...

Sad to see this, the Alpha Dog was my favorite headphone and even now when I own the beyer T1 I still yearn for the alpha sometime. The isolation and sound is just amazin!

That looks the same as the original and it has the same driver apart from the welcome headband, slider changes, and probably internal dampening etc. Is part of the reason of discontinuation the costs involved? Is it more because the Ether success has enabled Mr. Speakers to fully invest in his own drivers. What ever the reason(probably should read my email again) its pretty cool.
The DIY community will still have a T50 to play with regardless because its still similar but fine tuned. May even make for better t50 mods who knows?

Part of the challenge is that Fostex has yet to announce pricing and availability.  Obviously when you run a business with employees and fixed overhead costs we can't allow ourselves to be in a position where we have an uncertain supply chain with uncertain cost structure.  A second issue is that there are multiple changes; the baffle is apparently different and there may or may not be a driver change.  We were under the impression the driver was not changed, but then we've seen conflicting announcements.  This, combined with supply and price uncertainty, led us to the conclusion now was the right time to cut the cord.  We'll continue making Alpha pads and leather straps to support the mod community as well as our installed base.

This is a third party site, our authorized resellers for Benelux.  It's up to them if they wish to reduce their prices.  They can sell anywhere in the EU where we don't have a signed reseller or distributor.  We will soon have support in France, Germany and Italy but for now this is the best site.  The new resellers will only be carrying ETHER.
