Hi everyone. I recently purchased the emu0404 and would like ot hook it into my pc speakers, Megaowrks THX550subwoofer (Cambridge Soundworks) and 2 MC-300 Sats.

I do not have a reciever or anything. Just my PC. I already have an X-treme music sound card that is for gamming, the emu will be for music.

What will I need for connectors to do this and can it be done?

If, as I think, that's a powered sub that also powers the speakers (like most PC speakers), all you need is a cable with RCA jacks (that's what the 0404 output is) on one end and whatever the subwoofer takes for input (could be RCA, could be mini (3.5mm) jack) on the other end. Nothing else.

I'm in a similar position at the moment - soon to purchase an 0404. The 0404 has 1/4" mono outputs, not RCA. And if your sub is like my Cambridge Soundworks 250D sub (I believe it's the same), then yes you'll need something with a 3.5mm plug at that end. I think there are different ways to go about it. Either a 1/4" splitter cable/adapter that will let you convert to a single stereo 3.5mm, or a 1/4" -> RCA or 3.5mm adapter in each output, allowing you to use a more standard splitter cable.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the 0404 outputs analog through 1/4" jacks, not RCA. The RCA jacks should be for electrical s/pdif I/O.

As such, you'll need some adapters. A trip to Radioshack should take care of things.

Or if you've got the cash, a trip to fidaudio.com or headphile.com should take care of things.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I have a slight problem though. Everything was great until I added the X-Fi card/it's drivers. My machine rebooted on it's own once, then settled down but niether crads console starts up or will start up manually. The X-fi seems to be the only card working now too. I'm thinking maybe some of it's driver possibly over wrote some of the emu's?

I'm using the analog out on the emu, sounded great by the way. I have this y-adapter comming off my sub so both cards are plugged into the same place.

On my mobo, the X-fi occupies a slot above the emu, is this a problem? I did install the emu first after unistalling the X-fi card. So I went from scratch, emu and it's drivers first. Gave it a listen, was in awe, and then installed the x-fi, then problems lol.

I just downloaded Foobar as well tonight, first time I've used it and it was not letting my use the emu as the output, it would work then something would pop up saying the card was'nt an option. Even in the sounds console in the control panel the emu was showing up but could not move the volume slider in there, only on the xfi.

Good news, it looks like I figured it out and so far so good.

I disable one card while using the other from the control panel. I've been going by the seat of my pants with this but it looks as if everything turned out ok after removing both cards and starting form scratch once more.

The EMU 0404 is by far the best souding card I have ever heard.

The Prodigy was good, and could game some what, but I like my new setup much better with the 0404 for music and the X-Fi for games.

Glad you got it sorted... and *really* glad that you're impressed with the sound, even with the 550 speakers. That's good news for me, cos I'm ordering an 0404 soon and I'll be using the same speakers to start with, just not as many

Hopefully setup should be more straight forward for me - only running one card. I've only got one PCI slot in my iDEQ anyway.

Hi. I'm using the 550 subwoofer. I am not using the MC-50 sats that came with it though. I turned it into a 2.1 system and went with a pair of Cambridge Soundworks MC-300 sats. I had them previously paired with a Prodigy 7.1, which is a good card over all but left me wanting more. I liked it (Prodigy) much better than the 7.1 Revo. EMU0404 to my ears, is where it's at though.

while there is no EAX support w/ the 0404, i've never had a problem with the latest drivers. All games run flawlessly. Call of Duty 2 and a the games out there that use the Miles 2D system (which the emu does fine) sound fantastic!

I think emu's buggy day's are over with the latest version of patchmix and the 1.81 drivers.

Should be smooth sailing from here on out fellers, except for the lack of linux drivers.

Same result here for games with these new drivers
