I have connected the EMU 0404 to my usb connection on the computer (setup for both XP and Vista) and have installed the asioforall to use with it, however when I set it up I don't get any digital output to my Benchmark dac, on the control panel of the asio a message indicates 4 channels available, I only want 2 for stereo use and assign the first and second to left and right and leave the other two unavailable, can anyone offer any suggestions regarding the setup. I know the unit has issues regarding the digital out unless you use asio, I don't want to use the analougue output to link back in in order to obtain a digital out, if you can help I would be most appreciative.

First, you don't want to use ASIO4ALL with the 0404 USB. There's absolutely no reason to do so, because the 0404 USB drivers provide native support for ASIO; ASIO4ALL is simply a way to provide ASIO support for a device if all you have is a standard Windows WDM audio driver.

Secondly, your player application must support ASIO directly, and provide you with a method to shift the channels.

I use Foobar 0.8.3, and in the Preferences>Playback>Output>ASIO (dll version) dialog box, there is a menu selection for "Shift output channels" that is normally set to 0 (zero) to route the output to the analog output stage; that setting must be set to 2 in order to route the output from the PC over USB to the S/PDIF output stage in the 0404 USB.

Thanks for the help, at present I use the same earlier Foobar as you with my Transit usb/sdif converter works extremely well using ASIO4ALL in both XP and Vista, I will try the 0404usb tomorrow using your advice, hopefully it will work this time, thanks again,

Connected up last night and used Foobar in XP works and sounds great, with better bass and midrange when compared to the Transit, however when I tried it in Vista but this time usin the latetest Foobar 9.5 I couldn't get it to work and didn't have the drop down box labelled "shift" which appears in the earlier Foobar 8.3, any advice to get it working in Vista?

Wish I did, but I have avoided, and will continue to avoid, Vista like the plague.

0.9.x versions of Foobar have a bad tendency to lose ASIO config settings, and the dialog box, as you mention, seems to offer fewer options. That's always confused me--seems like a step backward--but it was primarily the loss of config settings that convinced me to roll back to 0.8.3.
